Missing person : Betsy (username: "wstphal")

I thought someone seemed missing from DYK...

At first I thought this was an April Fool's joke, then I noticed she stopped posting here a month ago. I hope she's okay; I don't really know her personally but I know she's well liked and respected.

Last time she logged on this forum was 3/3/11, so it hasn't been as long as you think. She apparently doesn't wish to respond to inquiries at this time.

I have been wondering about her cause as everyone else has said she was very active on cs.com and then nothing. I don't think it is nice to compare her to someone else that dropped off the face of the earth and should have stayed there.

It seems like the first concern would be to ascertain she is OK, and if something bad has happened to her those snakes could be sitting somewhere uncared for as well. If she has logged in and not been responding to people's pm or emails it doesn't look good. Sounds to me like someone local to MA needs to go check it out.

You are right, that should be our first concern. She is a very nice person and I hope that everything is ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan, I was entirely unaware of that. Thank you for researching and finding that clue. It had escaped me.
That fact is quite reassuring. Interesting, she is still at least somewhat interested in the hobby, and still at least somewhat active in the forum.

But I have to agree with Jen's point regarding all her snakes.
It begs the question of why she did not leave word regarding the half a dozen to a dozen +/- snakes she has in her possession that do not belong to her.
Making our inquiries of significantly less consequence...than the imperative of her anxiously awaited responses.

I think the fact that she's logged on and hasn't responded to people whose snakes she has is quite troubling rather than reassuring. It seems extra wrong to me that she's allowing people to worry about her and wonder if she's okay or even alive, when it now appears that she's alright, yet has people's snakes hostage.

Unless someone else was using her computer and came to this site.. perhaps she was auto logged in or something.

I would feel very frustrated and hopelessly powerless if someone had some of my snakes on an unresolved breeding loan, was logging into this site, aware of the issues/ concern, and NOT responding.

Something does not seem quite right. :nope:

IMO, the best way to find out if she's okay is to call her office. She IS a practicing physician and her staff would know if she was alright or not. And there is no harm in calling a business inquiring about the doctor on staff and if she is working/taking appointments. And you don't have to live in Massechusetts to call a phone number there.

Well I have to agree with Susan that it is not a bad idea to call her work. I would also send a letter by registered/certified mail about the snakes to her address. If she is a doctor I can't see any motivation she would have to abscond with anybody's snakes, and she seemed like such a regular here that it is strange for her to suddenly stop posting. I hate to say it but I am more inclined to think something may have happened to her.

Woah this is crazier than I thought.

Its fine for a person to drop a hobby ... even if it's abrupt or rude, they are hardly committed to a forum. HOWEVER, when a person owes money, snakes, etc then they are essentially stealing by not responding. I am just surprised how many people in reptiles seem to up and leave!!
