I just felt compelled to reply :D I thought your first tooth shot was great but that second one is completely awesome!!! That should go in a book, or calendar or something!!! What an awesome venture your taking on, and I think it's so great how you went about it--and so awesome how you were able to get such great help and also how you've gotten quite the variety of little pippies :D:D:D Also have you noticed that so far everything that you've "asked" for, you've gotten them??? I'm seriously going to LOL if you end up with your Butter Mots :D

only 2 more to go!

last pic looks like it might be butter! doesn't seem orange/red enough for me to be an amel... oooh you have such a beautiful clutch!

First, let me say that Fig is perfect! Second, your *motleys* are actually trundlefarts, just in case you didnt know.

Jessica that is one great looking clutch! Did some searching on the Parents of Copperhead. Bought the Dam: 0.1 Hurricane motley butter from Sandy Shields, Jan 2005. The Sire: striped motley butter came from Frank Pinello, Feb 2006.
I also got a trio of 1.0 striped & 0.2 motley buttercreams & 1.2 Hypo Bloodreds related to "wierdo" from Frank in that shipment. All the animals were bought as proven adults from Sandy & Frank. I don't know what the grandparents were. I suspect that since Frank had adult buttercreams at that time, There could be a connection between the two. That is only speculation. Hope that helps.:shrugs:

Maybe that's his name for Motley/Stripes that are visual Motleys. :shrugs:

Thanks for the info Tom. So do you think that one of Copperhead's parents was really a very light ButterCream or at least had some Emoryi blood in there somewhere?

Well don't stop with the pictures woman cause you got some nice looking babes there. You got to be pumped!!!

Well.. I'm a little bummed thinking they might actually be Creams and Butter Creams, because I didn't have any intention of making hybrids, but people seem to like them, and as long as they find good homes I will be happy!

I suppose when it comes down to it many more snakes than we know probably have some kind of "other" blood in them.. *shrug* they're still cute snakes.

I am definitely happy though.. looking at those little faces, and into those eyes.. it doesn't matter what their actual lineage is. They are just so adorable and lovely.

I was thinking that too!! This is almost terrible to admit, but I had to REALLY resist the urge to pull back the shell on a few of the pips last night before I went to bed to confirm if they would be Butters. I think the Amels are pretty distinctive though. You can see the red shining through!

I think that is a good possiblity. I'm still perplexed, why were the rest of Copperhead's sibs 100% visual butters? Yet it appears that you are getting an almost equal amount of amel to butter ratio. It will be interesting to see how they look after a couple sheds & a few meals. Will they be expressing the buttery look that Copperhead has on his head etc ?

Jessica, you might be able to see red dots of hemipenes, especially if you hold them up to the light.

haha, yea, right after I typed that visually sexing them probably wouldn't work I realized that they are all light enough that I can probably shine a light and see right through. I can definitely see other internal organs.

Don't females have red dots too though where their scent glands are? I suppose I might as well just try and see if I can tell a difference.

That's what really confuses me too! It would almost be less confusing if this clutch was similar in that there was only one weird looking one.

Is there any way that before you got his parents they might have been bred to something else, or did you get them when they were both small? I know that they were virgins for you, but what if they were bred before you got them or even housed with another animal and ended up with stored away sperm that way?

A trundlefart is the new trade name (i WILL make it happen) for animals that are genetically het motley and stripe.

Isnt it possible that Copperhead simply didnt get the second caramel gene from one of his parents? I mean, if an anomaly never happened then we would never have the word, right?

I really don't see any creamcicle look to the amels. The heads have too much yellow. I don't think anyone has produced any striped creams either. You could try a breeding test to an emrory to determine if there is any emory involved.
I still think that Susan's explanation in another post about a hidden gene showing up several generations later applies here.

Thanks for the clarification on the new trade name! I think you have stated a very good point & one that I failed to consider.

I got each parent from a different person, located on opposite sides of the country. They were adults when I purchased them. The female was a proven breeder. The male was a young adult. I don't know how they were kept prior to my purchase.
I keep all of my snakes seperated except for breeding. Even during breeding they are seperated shortly after copulation. The only exception is if I'm only breeding a particular male to only one partner. Then they are left together and only seperated to feed. Once the female does her post ovulation shed they are seperated until the next season.

So the mother of Copperhead wasn't a virgin but instead a proven breeder! (highlighted in bold in quote) BINGO! Most likely a result of retained sperm.
