My new Swiss Webster's

ComoxCorn

Pssst...Got Corn??
I finally got my long awaited Swiss Webster mice to replace a couple of my feeder mice harem's. Swiss Webster's produce large litters on average, with litter sizes of twenty not at all uncommon. I'm looking forward to seeing how well these produce for me. I've been having great success with my regular mice, but hopefully I can reduce the number of harems now. I got 2 harems of 1.4 ratio, unrelated.

Good for you. I’ve had Swiss Websters for about 15 years now and they are great. Don’t mix them with your other mice, keep the strain pure. You’ll love them.

I have you to thank Wade. You were the one that turned me on to them. Took me a while to track them down though LOL. Thanks, and these guys won't be getting mixed up.

huh, that's what I need, a road trip to Utah...to visit Wade...:wavey:

I'd like some pure Websters!

Congrats, I got my Swissies about two months ago and they have just started producing. I am averaging 14-17 pinkies a litter so far.

The mice themselves are not that expensive the problem is getting them to you. I bought 5 males and 25 females for SAS Enterprises in New York. They shipped them Delta Dash to Salt Lake City, 300 miles from my home. I had to pick them up there. All total with shipping and all I think I paid $350 for 30 mice.

I will still keep a few harems of my regular mice, but if all goes well with the swiss websters, I will replace all my harems eventually. Nice thing is, my harems are unrelated, so I am able to make up new harems from them and never have to worry about inbreeding. I've had success with putting together new harems with my regular stock, picking from harems that are good producers and good temperment. I've heard some people say negative things, such as they are more prone to disease because they are lab mice bred in sterile environments, which I suppose would be true if they came from a medical/laboratory supplier. But mine came from stock that has been long removed from the "lab suplliers", and have a good track record as excellent producers. I'll be keeping tighter breeding records on these two harems, as I would like to keep a pure strain always, and even perhaps start selling a few harems.

Whoa!!

I got lucky with mine. My mouse breeder friend has got them in Tampa. Last trip down I got 20 females and 5 boys. Total, not including the trip which I was already there for a different reason. $25 and a case of Beer, Oh and I bought the pizza that night. :dancer:
