A few months ago my sister-in-law gave us a puppy. We named him Loki, and boy does that name fit him.

Well, we are both college students, new to the area where we live, and right now we are living on my GI Bill and the small amount of VA disability that I get per month, It is just enough to pay bills and have a little bit of money left over for food every month. So we kind of lead a boring life right now while we are searching for jobs.

No one seems to want to hire me because of my school schedule, at least that is what I am hearing.

But, on topic.

Our puppy got hit by a car today at about 6pm. We rushed him to the vet and they have him over night. He has a broken left femur and fractured pelvis. A Vet that my in-laws family uses told us that he can probably fix the puppy. Though my parents tell me that its not worth the bill, which combined with the emergency vet clinic that he is staying at tonight will be well over 1,000 dollars.
Luckily, my mother in law is set on helping us with this. My wife just recently lost her grandfather, who was a great man to everyone who knew him, and her mother thinks that if we loose this puppy so close to Pa's death that it will just devastate her even more.

Just, please please please be praying for us and our puppy.

You know, he is the first dog that I have allowed myself to get attached too since I was 11 when we had to put my life long friend, Okie, down because of cancer. This is really rough, I finally open myself up to feeling something for a pet and it smacks me in the face. My wife gets attached to everything, even the snakes that she thinks takes up too much of my time. She has the soft heart that I used to have. I just hope that she doesn't get Jaded because of this experience.

I forgot to add, that before we left he did poop on his own and the Vet said that is a good sign. Hopefully he can pee and there isn't any internal damage. On the radiology picture his abdominal wall was not punctured and he did not have any herniated spots. So, hopefully nothing is wrong internally.

Thank you everyone. I wish I could rep some more, but I cannot because I have rep'd too much within the last 24 hours, many good posts and all.

You have our thoughts and prayers! I know what its like to have any pet have some sort of accident and you have to come up with emergency cash. We would sacrifice anything for our animals. We don't have kids so our dogs, ferrets, geckos and snakes are our 'babies'. So I know what you are going thru. Keep us updated! And sorry for your family loss.

Well, I managed about 4 hours of sleep last night. We are now going to pick him up and take him to a Vet in Alamogordo, to see if he can do the surgery today.

Good luck. Making it through the night is a good sign. Even if he loses his leg, he won"t know any different; he will be fine.

You got it! We'd do anything for our dogs, too! And I have a soft spot for any dog who has earned the name, "Loki" :). We knew a Border Collie who we called "Loki" for the few days we had him when he was found as a stray. Too bad his owners claimed him... sorry for the OT. I miss him to this day, and it's been years.

Bones heal. I'm glad your MiL is helping you with the bill. I can't even imagine all the poor animals who have been euthanized because their owners couldn't pay for needed treatment. You got a bonus when your wife also happens to have a great Mom!

Please pass my condolences to her for the loss of her grandfather. And, of course, I'll keep your Loki in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there. He'll make it :).

Oh Aaron, I'm very sorry. I'll keep you, your wife, and Loki in my thoughts. Hopefully they can fix him!
