My wife and I need your prayers and well wishes.

I'll cross my fingers that Loki will be fine and better as never before!

You must feel like you're in an endless bad period of your life but every cloud has a silver lining, you will feel better and both have jobs some day!

Such horrible news!

Poor puppy! Sounds like he is young and healthy, so will hopefully be strong enough for a full recovery. My thoughts are with you!

Aaron, I am so sorry. Puppies can bring such joy to your home, I hope all turns out well.

You have all of my family's thoughts & prayers! Condolences to you wife as well!

Thank you all for your prayers.

Update:
The vet here in Alamogordo is awesome, He looked at Loki and the xray's and said that the chances are good that he can fix him.. Though he had to pull the urinary catheter out because it was not doing its job. As he was doing so there was a lot of blood that started flowing into the bag, so he let that drain until it stoped, and then he tried to help Loki empty his bladder, He thinks Loki has a blood clot in his urethra and is working on getting it disolved so he can pee again. He ended up using a needle and syringe to empty Loki's bladder and said it looked good and that he just needed to get him to pee on his own, so he can start with the surgery.

The Vet said that the break to the femur is a good one, in terms of being able to pin it in multiple places so that it can grow back strong, It is a long break. Oh, and the fact that Loki is alert and knows what is going on is a good sign too.

So, right now it is looking good, he has been admitted to the hospital, and I have no idea how long they will want to keep him. But this is a good vet that has done this type of surgery before and is really good.

I'm sorry about what you, your wife and your dog are going through. I'll keep you in my prayers. And I hope the dog recovers soon. God bless.

Oh Aaron, I'm so happy for you all. This is really good news! Prayers will continue.

It sounds so scary!

But it sounds like your dog is in good hands, and the prognosis sounds good!

Good luck!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Loki. I've got a four legged friend as well and I know how tough it is when they get hurt. Hang in there :)

Wow, your parents don't think it's worth saving an animal? :angry01: They sound real supportive...

Nice to hear your pup's doing good though. :)

Their whole issue is the money thing. They personally would have tried to save him, but since my wife and I are newly married and we can just afford rent and food for each month. My father thought it would be better to skip the expense. I told him he was crazy and I was not going to put an animal down and that if it came down to Loki loosing a leg at 5 months old, or having to be put down, I would end up with a tripod dog.

He understands why I have chosen to go through with all of the vet bills and stuff. He was just looking at the financial side of it.
My wife and I are in agreement. We will starve before our animals will die because we cannot provide for them.
And, my mother in law is extremely helpful, she has been through this with one of her dogs, and is helping us make payments when we cannot make them and stuff.

People do have different ideas of when & in what situation it is best the put an animal down. Unfortunately, money can be a big deciding factor in it. That's tragic but a reality & doesn't make someone who thinks of it & weighs it into their decision a bad pet owner, IMHO.

Update:

Got a call from the Vet about an hour ago. Loki is still alert, the pain meds they have him on has helped him a lot. He slept most of the day, but when people come into the room he sits up and greets them at the front of the cage. He still has not urinated without assistance and the Vet thinks there is a possibility that his Urethra was crushed when he got hit, I am not sure what that means, i just know it cannot be good. Loki has also been vomiting and a couple of times there was a little bit of blood in it. I really have a feeling that is bad.
The doc said that all we can do right now is keep him on the fluids and antibiotics and see how he does. He does not want to go in for exploratory surgery right now because the chances are high that Loki will crash during it.

I honestly do not know what to do, I keep getting mixed signals from the Vet. This is probably the most stressful thing I have ever had to go through up to date, and that includes being shot at. At least when I was getting shot at I could control something. I don't know how to do this, and my wife is in the same boat. We do not want to loose Loki, but if the Vet says that it would be best to put him down, we will have to do that. I do not want him to suffer, even though it will break my heart, and is right now. To know that he is in the condition he is, and not really knowing what is going on inside of him. I just hope that the blood in the vomit is from when they shoved a tube down his throat to insure he took the meds to keep him from trying to eat everyone after they stuck him in the bladder with a needle.

This is really a rough time, I am so glad to have friends like you, even though I have not met any of you in person. I hope to one day at show's or maybe when I visit my parents in Baton Rouge, for you Louisiana folks.

So sorry you have to go through this! I did go through this with one of my cats, so I can imagine your stress.

But he probably is not suffering much right now because of the meds. So try to rest, knowing that fact. After a short time, it will probably become clear to the vet whether his prognosis is improving - or not. Then, with the help of a knowledgeable professional, you can make an informed decision about what to do. Give it time as long as the meds are keeping him reasonably comfortable, and as long as the answer is not yet clear. At least if the worst DOES happen, you will know you gave him every chance possible. That may be some small consolation.

But if positive thoughts from afar can accomplish anything, he will be doing better tomorrow.

OH my, I hope things work out! He's still young, so that should help with healing. In my experience it seems like the young animals recover the best from things.

The swelling from the injury might be pinching off his urethra, so hopefully as he recovers that will spontaneously resolve on its own. There are things they can do to repair it if needed too. And it sounds like if there was only blood a couple times in the vomit it was probably more from the tubing than a problem, or I'd think it would be more constant.

He's a young dog, the younger animals do extremely well in many of these cases, they seem to be able to recover and bounce back from things better than older animals. So he definitely has that on his side. But you should definitely keep up an ongoing dialogue with your vet about his case, how he's doing, what the options are, what the prognosis is, etc. I know you want to do the best for Loki, and whatever happens, you'll make the right choice.

Keeping you all in our thoughts here, I hope for the best for all of you!
