Yeah, it's a coachwhip. Seen them around here fairly often, but they are more commonly banded in this area. I caught one years ago that went perfectly rigid like it was catatonic. Felt just like I was holding onto a stick rather than a live snake. No matter what I did, he wouldn't move. So I laid him on the ground and walked away. After a few minutes, he looked around and just shot away..... So far, I've never heard of anyone else experiencing a coachwhip behaving like that one did.
They are actually pretty neat snakes, but I don't want them around here eating up all the lizards.....
