So I picked up this lil guy/girl from petsmart. Prob not the best place, I know, but it was a birthday give to me from my wonderful gf.

So here is the rundown. The store had 'em in a very small viv. Probably less than 5gal. So i figured i had saved it already by taking it out to see how long it was. The 'paper work' they had showed that they had 'em since January 7th. It showed that every month he/she shed. Also about every 2 weeks they fed 'em 3 pinkies at a time.

Is 3 pinkies at a time OK for a corn this small? I obviously know its at least 8 months old. Does that look about the right size for a 8mo? I also assume it was just a classic stripe. Am I correct?

Ive been out of cs's for about 4 years (my join date was when I got my very first snake from Kathy) and just wanted to post my new lil bud!

Ill be lurking around soaking up info again as it has been a while.

Right now I got 'em hangin out in a 10gal with a water bowl and the plastic cup I took him home in. Im waiting to put the fake wood I got for my first one in there after he/she eats. Temps are around 79-84 during the day. I live in TX so I don't think ill be using a uth, just an overhead. I will be getting a hygrometer in about 15 mins. I also need to know if its male or female!

Ok before I type too much too late i just wanted to say thanks and hello again!

It looks like an amel motley, but I can't tell if the eyes and pupils are red or not. If not, it's probably a hypo motley. 3 pinkies every 2 weeks is not the best feeding schedule, but at least it was something. It's hard to tell the exact size of your new addition, but it looks large enough to maybe take a large pinky or 2 regular pinkies at a feeding, but I would bump it up to once a week or even once every 5-6 days.

The eyes/pupils are both red. I'll be getting pinkies along with that hygrometer today so I just wanted to make sure how many for consistency sake. I've had him for a day so far, that too soon to start feeding in a new viv? He/she still looks nervous, but hasn't eaten since the 27th :(

I'm shocked they got away with only feeding it every two weeks. They are supposed to feed them every 5 days. I work at a petsmart and if we did that we would get introuble, anyhow that looks like an Amel Motley and it is very pretty congrats.

Looks like an amel motley to me.. I think a few pinkies every 5-7 days would be better than what they where feeding it.. If you can take a picture of it in your hands we can tell its size better and tell you what it should be eating more accurately..

I appreciate the help. I feel a lil silly now calling it a stripe. :\

I do think that it is female as the tail looks to be not-so-stubby.

Don't feel silly calling it a stripe! Cube is a selectively bred stripe, so technically, it is a stripe! That's a gorgeous snake, that's for sure!

I see no indication of this snake being homozygous stripe. The markings on the cranial half are classic motley/Q-tipped variety with a small pin-stripe. The edges of the pattern on the full length of the snake are much too rounded to indicate a cubed stripe.

he's really pretty! Congrats. Start feeding him in a normal pace and he should get a bit more fat on his bones! Thank god you saved him :)
