New adult Butter

Went to the reptile show at Manassas today, and my son was so smitten by an adult male butter that was there that he agreed to pay the full price out of his Piggy Bank.

He was advertised as a butter, but I'm not positive he is (but these pictures really wash out any of the buttery colors he does have. He's not the best looking snake I've ever seen, but he's now ours. I checked him several times for mites using the damp paper town method and he came up clean. The one thing I'm going to watch closely is his breathing. He'll breath fine for several breaths, then he'll let out a squeek (like pinching a balloon). Then another dozen quiet breaths. Odd.

Age unknown - the seller said he's "about 3" but then also said he's been bred a couple times, so I think his age is closer to 5 than 3. He weighed in at 404 grams and is very docile. Didn't even react too badly to Cooper's many overhead grabs ("scoop from below, Cooper, scoooop."). He might be even a little underweight, as his spineline can be seem easier than I'd think it should be. He'll be checked more thoroughly after he's settled in and had a couple meals.

So, without further adieu, meet Popcorn, Male Butter; exact age and hets unknown.

Coop looks afraid in the pictures, but he's not. He's just in that 'cant make a real smile for a camera' stage. Better pics will come later...

Thanks for looking.

lol you sound so dissapointed.
And no wonder you offered to buy me and the baby a snake, if your kid has $100 I wanna be your kid :crazy02:

I think he looks beautiful!

Every day, I empty my pocket of change and put it in a bin by the phone. It's never, ever overflowed. Oddly, Cooper's piggy bank (a 5 gallon water bottle) continues to mysteriously fill... Never figured it out. :shrugs:

LOL :laugh01:

That is the one! I thought he was adorable...kinda washed out for a butter, but still a cutie. :) I am so glad to know he went to a good home. Perfect baby for your son! Horray for kids with corns. I think I even remember that child too....dang I wish I had seen your LSU advertisement. oh well

Well, I showed up at 12:45 or so. Meant to be there at 11. Still was a good time.

What a great snake for your boy! There's nothing better than a nice, calm, confident adult snake.

I guess you were there right when I was. I saw that guy and he looked good to me. Nice pickup

Rather than yank him out of his bin to take a couple pictures (had to yank him out once to put in the thermometer... I forgot to put one in)

Here's a slightly better look at his face, which is the more buttered end:

In the second pic, you can see what I mean about his spineline showing more than I think it oughta. Gonna have to feed this fellow a bit.

At the show, I bought 10 mice cuz the biggest I have in the freezer are fuzzies, but they all weighed out from between 10 and 15 g. So I'll feed him two each meal until they're gone and will order proper mice from TMF on Monday.

He sure is nice looking. It looks as though some one was trying to make butter okeetees. Very different for a butter.

So what we're they feeding him then?:shrugs:
They just said 1 adult mouse a week, on Tuesdays. I'll keep him on a weekly schedule (probabably change the day to Sunday), but make sure the total mouse weight is at least 30g and see if he'll fill in some. Unless ya'll think I should speed that up a little with a 6 or even 5 day schedule for a while. I won't be letting him snooze over the winter.

They had a huge amel next to him that just dwarfed him. If Popcorn is 400 g, this guy had to have been 600 - 800. BIG fellow. I don't think I can go to any more shows. :shrugs:

His spine just seems a little too prominent, like he needs to fill out just a bit. If the "ideal" body shape is a loaf of bread; flat on the belly, and rounded across the back - then he's not there yet.

Hey Merlin, beautiful boys you got there, your son and the snake!!!!

P.S You need to update your sig...lol

Yeah and the sad part is that amel was skinny compaired to the one I just bought....the show really showed me what a porker he is!
