New Trade Names

Gettin a tad bit thin skinned are we?? ( o )

No, just weary of non-productive posts that tend to be nothing but negative. You can call it thin-skinned, I just call it voicing my thoughts if what someone has to say regarding a thread I started brings nothing but negativity to the table.

Honestly it really doesn't matter what you call it. Eventually somebody is going to call it something else at some point. How important is it really?:shrugs:

What's so negative about the truth?:shrugs: You asked for opinions on new trade names. Well that's mine. :smash:

Nothing is wrong with the truth. I just feel like people love to play the Debbie-downer roll a bit too much. Of course I realize it doesn't matter, but I thought it'd be fun for all of us to just sit around and see what we could come up with. But instead of playing along and contributing, your comment instead was the DD one. Cool. That was your contribution.

Even though good intentions were meant with this thread, the topic of trade names never seems to be a popular one. I think some of the recent attempts for new trade names didn't go over so well...:shrugs:

I'm not a huge fan of trade names, but I do see where this could have been a fun topic. Who knows, maybe a good trade name could come out of it?

I am completely new to corns/morphs. So here are some names I thought of that might work considering their pattern, etc. Just suggestions as I find doing this sort of thing entertaining. :)

Honey + Diffused = Sweet
Honey + Stripe = Banana
Stripe + Diffused = Linear
Strawberry + Granite = Bruised Berry
Strawberry + Snow = Snow Cone or Peach or Peaches and Cream
Anery + Sunkissed = Ash
Lava + Sunkissed = Molten
Strawberry + Sunkissed = Summertime
Motley + Diffused = Flare or Flared
Honey + Ultra = Sugar Rush
Lava + Cinder = Burnt
Strawberry + Caramel = Dessert or Champagne

Maybe the problem was it wasn't presented as 'just for fun?" Some people are really twitchy about trade names.

Very interesting because, from my observation this is exactly what you did in the tessera thread; turning it into a negative debate that didn't even relate to the topic. It'd be nice to see pots refraining from calling the kettle black.

On a different note, I think that trade names can be somewhat touchy because people that have been an integral part in the production of certain morphs would most likely want to be involved in some way shape or form.

In my opinion, I think an individual morph combination in question should be brought up in its own thread and the question asked, vice "this is what I'm going to call it whether you guys like it or not, but what do you think?"; which is exactly what I've seen happen a few times here.
I personally like morph combination names, but I do think it should be individually addressed and the public's view point on it taken into consideration, unless you solely produced the first combo yourself (my personal opinion, of course).

I like morph combination names when they make sense. Like Orchid, Shatter, Peppermint. I have to really think when the names are super-similar, though.

There are still people out there upset about "granite" being assigned to anery blood, it had been the name already for terrazzo (which had to be renamed) and granite as a name for anery blood was a result of a vote here on cs: the problem is that not every corn snake breeder or first morph producer frequents this particular forum. As much as I like cs I don't think the members here should get to make all the rules- if someone is a first ever producer of a morph and doesn't like the internet that should not negate their privilege of being the one that gets to name it.

Yup, you're exactly right. Funny thing is I just posted an apology over there before I came over here and saw your post. Sometimes we're all guilty of being hypocrites, and I'm no exception to that. I made a mistake and have since apologized for my crap behavior. I'm just happy that others resurrected that thread and kept it going!

I agree, however, a lot of these morphs are produced by people who wanted to make something new and could care less what it's called. In that situation, and that happens a lot, I don't think it's showing disrespect to the original producer of the morph if someone attaches a trade name to that morph.

Regardless, trade names come and go, just as many people in this thread have pointed out. While I might have done a piss-poor job introducing the intent behind this thread as a purely fun exercise:

Maybe the problem was it wasn't presented as 'just for fun?" Some people are really twitchy about trade names.

...it was my intent to just have a good back-and-forth with all of you. I thought we'd get some good names, some silly ones, and ones that would make me laugh out loud. It was never my intent to have any of these names permanently stick from this one thread. The day I wrote this I was just in my snake room and was looking at the animals I had. Some of the animals I could name with one word, while others had four to five word names. It was that situation that made me come over here and post something up for all of us to consider. So, now that it's taken to page 6 for me to I guess explain my intent, I hope we can have some fun coming up with names that aren't meant to ever stick in the community!

So far I've really liked the names shadow (sunkissed + anery), honeycomb (honey + diffused), and magma (lava + blood).

I do like those names too.
My only thought, is that the Anery Sunkissed, for some reason has much more yellow retention than any other Anery combo morph that I've observed thus far. Not sure if this should be taken into consideration or not.

I also have been spending a lot of time working with the dark sunkissed morph (you can see a small excerpt about this snake in the last morph guide) and was debating on calling them "Smokey Sunkisseds or Smokey Corns".
It's really unknown yet whether the dark is a line-bred trait or if 'dark sunkissed' is, in itself a recessive gene or even if it's two genes at work - one being sunkissed.
All I can say is that they're very unusual so far but I'm hesitant to call them anything yet, or ask for opinions on it until we can hammer out these details.

I'd be willing to support these as actual trade names. Anyone else have an opinion on these three names so far?

Jarr

I'm down with those. Here is another I have been contemplating (Sunkissed + Charcoal) = Onyx..........opinions??

Walter
:crazy02:BOUT' CORNS !!

Walter,

I love the name Onyx!! But was Kinda hoping we'd hold off on that one until

someone produces the first all BLACK corn.

Could be a long wait..........

I like Onyx Walter, but the color seems more of a Slate to me.
But it is catchy.

Yeah, I agree on the coloration, but I was thinking Onyx would be a good discript for the DARKER Sunkissed (Anery B) combo vs. the Sunkissed Anery (A).
