Oak and Olive

Jessicat

All Pied Everything
Hey all, I suppose I should do a quick re-introduction of myself before I post pictures. Hi, I'm Jessica, an artist. I live in Eugene OR, going to UO.
Over the last few years I've gone though a lot of change, loss, and yet also growth. I hit a low point a few years ago and had to make many changes, part of that being accepting losses and turning my whole life around. For those of you who remember me, I no longer have the snakes in my old collection.

This last year though has marked the positive part of my change. I've started to learn how to live with accountability and joy. I've gained a LOT of personal growth and feel much better than I had in the past. Things have been going pretty well, but one of the main things I felt was still missing from my life was snakes. I've been missing them, but I finally feel like I'm at a point in my life where I can responsibly keep them again.

I started browsing here a little, mostly lurking, and also looking at VMS's available snakes every once in awhile. I saw a little female Phantom for sale and just kind of KNEW I had to grab her! Something about her really turned my head.

So yea, here I am now.. finally a snake owner again!! I'm so happy. I do want to keep it small though for now, not get in over my head. Of course being a true Corn Snake addict, I had to get a 1.1 "pair"

So anyway, here I introduce Oak and Olive, my new babies!! They are both named for streets in Eugene that have significant meaning to me. I've gone through lots of changes and my life will forever be impacted by events that happened on these streets.

OK, enough with the chit chat, on to the snakes!!

Curious from the very start!

I just couldn't stop taking pictures of her, she is SO BEAUTIFUL! She also is very calm and exploratory. She's only struck at me once, on her first day here when I was taking these pics before putting her into her new home.

cont with Oak.. :)

Oak is a bit more agro, he's a bit of a hateling! Gotta love him though, I'm sure he'll come out of his shell soon. I don't have as many pictures of him because I didn't want to stress him out too badly.

This picture is too funny not to share...
(Oh and that's my friend Steven in the background, VERY excited by the new snakes ;) Oak is NOT as excited by our presence! )

Annnnnd their home. :)
It's weird not having them in a rack, but I like this set up. Heating pad is under the cloth, and they are surrounded by art. ;)

Oh yea, and I found these little half log things at a local pet store on clearance, so I "upgraded" from TP tubes. There's also some sphagnum moss in there. I was hoping that Oak's attitude was just because he was close to shed, but he's been here with me for over a week now, and ..no shed!! Looks like he's just a hateling :3

Thanks Eddie!

Hrm, sorry the picture are kind of large. I was hoping photobucket would size them down a bit more than that.

So cute! The picks of oak are too funny. I got myself the opposite pair- male phantom and female pewter! They are lovely morphs. Congrats.

You aren't kidding about that triangle head! He almost looks like a python with that thing! If it turns out to be heritable, I'd be interested in some future offspring!

I am so glad to see you back, you have been missed around here. I saw you post on another thread. Looks like you picked up some good ones there to start over, can't go wrong with Sean's (VMS) snakes.
John

Good to see you back! I'm glad you're on the right path and back into snakes. Thanks for sharing pics of your new babies!!

Awesome!!! Like most others, I find Oak's cobra head just too funny!!!

BUT, Olive is just beautiful... Gotta get one of her for my collection someday too! :)

Thanks for the Welcome back everyone! For awhile I couldn't really think about my snakes or look at pictures without tearing up and just being way too over emotional. That was pretty hard because my computer is FULL of snake photos!!
After awhile though, I started becoming much more accepting and it was a little less painful to brows around here a little and look at pictures of my old pets. And while of course I missed owning snakes, this might sound dorky, but I also REALLY MISSED THE FORUM!

It's awesome to come back and see everyone's collections, how much they've grown since I last saw them.. how well everyone's doing. I love seeing a bunch of the old timers, and feel great being able to share with new comers.

Steph, ya, I thought of you when I first saw Olive. Your Phantom girl was the snake that reallly turned me onto Phantoms. Sorry to see that she is gone :( Your new little guy looks great though!!

John, thanks so much for the welcome back, I think you're one of the people I thought might not want to see me back around here. I guess I always catastrophsize though..

Thanks Kathy and everyone else who piped up! I'm really excited about owning snakes again and happy to be part of the forum!
Although now I'm getting tempted by such things as Stephen Roylance's Charcoal Motley *DROOL*!!! I'm going to try my hardest to stay with just these two guys for awhile. I really want to do right by them and give them all the love and attention they need/ deserve.
