So, I am sitting here reading posts and looking at pictures, and I see two more corns i absolutely want and there are there ready to be bought.. How do you stop yourself?

I have one more coming on Tuesday, I said after that ok Ill hold off now.. but these amazing corns from breeders on this page is out there and they are beyond amazing..

since I am a pet person i do NOT need all them corns... But I want them so badly... I have a bad case of RAS going on...

how do you stop yourself?
 
I've said no to myself several times this week alone ... Generally helps if you have a particular critter you want, other species/morph and implement a limit, real or imagined, like space constraint, on yourself. Then you can say, okay I'm holding out for this that I really, really want at some future date and when those, "oh, wow! Look at that! I want!" ad or pictures come up, you can say, okay, I can get that but then I will have to forego this other thing I promised myself, balanced together, which do I want more?
That works pretty good but not always, alas.
 
well you guys have breeding goals.. so then I can see holding out for this or that... took me 2 years to find the female I wanted for my male savannah... for me they are like little gems.. so it's super tough... and I love the various pale colors as you probably figured out by now and patterns etc.. lol sighs..

Like I saw the coral in the forum here and I am just dying to send him 100 dollars lol
 
I really want a Coral too, along with about 8 other corn morphs, just because I like them and have no real desire to breed them and or they wouldn't really fit together in a good breeding plan. Makes it hard, because we are pushing the limits on space/time to care for our current collection and the corns are my thing, my husband isn't really a fan of them, though he likes the Tessera gene. So it helps if they are a good breeding investment, in talking my husband into letting me get them.
 
Yep! I thought "oh just the one". Nope! Just ordered two from VMS :) Well, technically one is a Corn and the other is a Rosy Boa. Now NO MORE SNAKES! haha
 
Thanks Tavia! I can't wait to get him. I saw some at the expo this weekend and really wanted one so i just added to my order....oops!
 
What I have found to work for me is to take out the snakes I have every time I see another that I feel that I must have. It reminds me of what I have and why I wanted them in the first place.

Of course, having a more level headed girlfriend has helped me out as well. We were at the LA Repticon today and saw a subadult amber motley that was absolutely gorgeous. I was so tempted to bring her home today. My girlfriend loved her too but she has been wanting a striped amber and despite the fact that we both really liked the motley she decided we should hold off until she can find a stripe.

@Shirl - how did you enjoy the show? It was the smallest one we've been to this year but I think it was the most enjoyable for me, probably because this was the first time we went without looking for anything in particular. All of the other times we were looking for a corn for my girlfriend only to never find any that she was looking for. (I ended up ordering her a phantom from Tavia for her birthday)
 
@blacktip-I was a bit disappointed really. I have never been to a show and my expectations were high. I couldn't even buy a thermostat....no one had any. I wasn't looking for anything in particular. I would say that if I was looking for a Ball then I would have been in heaven! LOL! I did not see the corn you are talking about but I was happy to see a beautiful adult Amel so I now know what to look forward to with my current baby :) I also saw enough Rosys to know that I want one...so I've got one coming soon :)
 
You guys are not really helping me... sighs... really... I might have to break out my wallet soon.. stupid internet too easy to get hold of stuff!
 
If you really want advice on how to resist the addiction, you've definitely come to the wrong place! I started out 6 years ago with one snake and am now up to 37! That's actually quite restrained, considering how many species and morphs I'm constantly falling in love with through the years! And my husband is nearly as bad as me at saying no. Then there are the 4 Crested geckos, 4 Gargoyle geckos and 2 box turtles we also have, not counting offspring that we are planning to sell.
 
@Shirl - i understand the dissapointment. I've felt the same way after each show we've been to. Ball pythons have dominated all of the shows but their prices have really dropped over the year so maybe corns can make a comeback.

I'm kind of glad I couldn't find a thermostat since that was the only thing that stopped me from picking up another snake today.
 
Shows around here are great places (some of them) to get heating devices but there are almost never any rheostats or thermostats at any of them, nor at the local pet stores. Really isn't any wonder that so many people aren't aware of how much you can need something like that!

My name is Michelle ("hello Michelle") and I am a cornaholic. It started with one glance at a picture of a Fire Corn, I HAD to have a peek, so I bought her. I told myself it was a one time thing, it won't happen again, etc. I always said I will never be that girl who has hundreds of pets, but then I got caught up with all the images of corns on the internet. After Scarlett, I figured, "what's one more?", and then I had a couple of empty aquariums that I thought should be filled, and what's the harm? Then came MORE aquariums (the justifiable reason for another snake) and MORE corns, I can't help myself. So I turned to this forum for help. Forum? Help? No, honey, this is a Corn Crack den!

But I am loving every minute of it!

And Michelle, so basically Im doomed... I am glad to see Im not the only sucker though... Im looking at two snakes right now here in the forum.. Maybe I should just get a huge rack and buy my heart away..

And yes I can say I have no other hobbies than animals, I am at my happiest doting around them.. sighs...

Gotta admit though I am so sad I didn't start corns earlier, it really has turned out to everything I thought it would be..
 
I feel you. Corns are illegal in GA where I grew up so when I moved to Ohio I just had to get one. What started as a pair quickly became 20. I'm fortunate enough to have a room dedicated to my reptiles so space isn't an issue (yet). I don't plan to breed many of them, but a few have hets that are too exciting to waste. I guess I will stop if it ever feels like I'm spending too much time cleaning/feeding/etc. So if you have the money and the space/resources, why not go for it? There are definitely more expensive hobbies and $100 isn't too much to spend on a pet that will entertain you for a decade or more.
 
(I guess my response to your question is that I don't say no to myself, LOL!! But only if I can truly afford the animal.)
 
@Nanci-He is listed as a Mexican Rosy. Not sure of the locality. He is black and light tan striped. So maybe Cabo?
