Old Herp Books...

Not that great.

Most of the Corn books I got just for completeness sake. Don's and Kathy's are all you really need. :D

I think that is about it for my herp library, except the complete ball python. That one I'll take a picture of tomorrow.

I plan to get the new BP book that is coming out this month and also the new milksnake book.

I was kinda hoping more people would take pictures of some of their books, I am always looking for stuff to read. :D

Well, I've got a few that are kind of old, I guess...

I remember when Bill bought almost all of those - and it doesn't seem THAT long ago! When you said "old", I thought you meant from the '30s or '50s AT LEAST - or maybe older!

I'm goin' off to get my walker now, lol!

I was thinking the same thing Kathy! I have almost all the books I have seen here and don't consider them that old. I was hoping for some of the old snake hunters collectors items. I'm sure Bill has a few that go back a ways.

Finally!

Rich posted some books that are older than I am, lol!

Bill does have a bunch of books, and some are very old. Actually, now that we are trying to sell our place and buy a smaller place in Az, we are going to be offering a lot of books for sale. I don't think we will be taking photos of all of them, though! But we will be working on a list. Whenever we get enough listed, I will put it in the classified section.

LOL, Dave, you pretty much posted pictures of everything that I own and don't own, but have seen for sale!! I'll go check my collection though.. as well as Smith Family, the new/used bookstore in my town.

Great info in this book!

Smith Family has this one used for $50. At first I couldn't justify spending the money on it consitering that I have so much information at my fingertips on the internet, but browsing forums isn't the same as having a hard copy of something. I'm going to save up my pocket change for it, it looks amazing!

This book is great!
Hey, if you're done with Dart Frogs, send those my way!!! muahaha
Those look awesome!! Are they still in print?

Thanks for sharing, this thread has been so enjoyable! I'll see if I can come up with something.

Both dart frog books are still in print. :D

The boa/python book has got some very technical stuff in it but it is a must have for anyone serious about breeding methinks.

I have an original....

1969 copy of Kaufield's Snakes: the Keeper and the Kept.
1965 Rattlesnakes Dobie
1956 Rattlesnakes Klauber
1967 So Excellent a Fishe Carr
1961 Reptiles and Their World Fenton and Pallas

and many from the early 80's.

I thought that's what he meant too! Do you & Bill have any REALLY old herp books?

Yes, Bill is a real pack rat of a book collector. I like them too - but he is the real collector. Although most are in English, he has some in lots of different languages - not because he can read them, but he liked the photos, I guess. He also has a number of them that are quite old, some before 1900.

I don't have any photos of specific books, although we are trying to make a list of them. You probably can't read any of the titles (unless you enlarge the photo a lot), but this is the only photo I have of the library. This is about 75% of the library, and about 60 - 70% of the whole library is herp books. The rest is everything from other animal books, general nature, travel, psychology, gardening - whatever strikes our interest. It is going to be a real adventure trying to thin the collection down to move into a smaller place when we sell our house!

Trade us a nice house in Az, and maybe we can arrange to leave some of them behind with the house, haha!

Wow...I never thought 1991 was considered "old" until I read this thread...

The oldest reptile book I have currently is, "Poisonous Snakes of the World: A Manual for Use by U.S. Amphibious Forces"

Originally issued and published in June of 1962

I do have a couple of older field guides from the early '70s, and while taxonomy has changed drastically, the pictures are usually pretty useful, and they can be handy to have around...
