Parrots from Work

[Insert Witty Commentary]
Took a couple more pictures of some friends of mine from work. The Blue & Gold Macaw is named "Bailey". The last time I took pictures of him, he tried to kill my camera. This time, he almost seemed to mug for it. It's almost like he recognized the attention he was getting and started posing instead of trying to eat my camera.

Anyhow...

Thanks for looking and as always, any comments are greatly appreciated!!

Those are great photos!

The tufts of feathers on the African Grey just seem SO 3 dimensional! Each little tuft seems to glow, and there is a glow about the lower face that makes it seem almost like a painting.

I love B & G macaws, and he does seem to be posing! Both photos are very nice, but it must be the monochromatic gray colors that give the first one such a glow. However, I do like the way that the blue feathers along the top / back of the macaw's neck also catch the light. I think a bird owner would love to have a pet portrait like those!

Keep up the good work!

They are so pretty :) I love African greys :) I have one as a friend, although I don't see him as much anymore since I dont work out at the greenhouse in my spare time anymore.. His name is Zazu, we used to whistle back and forth to each other. Man was he fun to listen to.. He knows how to do everyones voice perfect, even coughs perfect lol.. You can't touch him though, he would bite the crap outta you.. :( I think I will go see him today when I go out there :)

They are adorable! Great pictures, I like the first one of Bailey.

I fell in love with a Blue Macaw at the feed store I go to his name is Harley and he is such a sweety but hates men and trys to eat my boyfriend, lol.

I love parrots. That Grey is just gorgeous! And the first pic of Baily almost looks like he's trying to say "Make sure you get my good side, dahling."

Great shots as usual, Chris!

Those are amazing pics!
Greys are the best! I love mine even if he's a pain in my rear end sometimes.
the macaw shots are great as well!

Just lovely birds. I love greys, if I had the time for one I would get one, but I don't think that'll ever happen unfortunately. I'll stick with my conure, and perhaps some day the pionus I want.

I wonder, have you ever heard of Tinkerbell the CAG. Let me see if I can find the link...This man named Shanlung, I believe he is from Taiwan...has trained a few birds here and there and keeps journals on it. He had a CAG named Tinkerbell that he trained to freeflight, as well as Yingshong the Shama, a few other birds as well. His life story is just crazy, and his understanding of animals is amazing.

Heres the link where I first found out about him http://www.tailfeathersnetwork.com/community/showthread.php?t=23881&highlight=shanlung

And Heres a link to his website http://www.geocities.com/shanlung9/

Theres so much on his website I could just get lost in reading it all, but he tells such wonderful stories.

Amazing shots. The photo of the Grey is especially well done. They both look happy and well adjusted which is a great thing to see in captive birds.

Thanks, everyone, for the comments!

I love both those birds. Nina is a true drama queen. She is VERY picky about who she likes and who she doesn't. She HATES the owner of the shop and we've no idea why. Won't even take a nut or Cheerio from her. Some people she loves, some people she doesn't. It took her a year and a half to trust me enough to let me love on her, and she bit me so many times in the process that I took a LONG time realizing she was trying to get my attention when she finally turned over.

Bailey is a big old butt-head. He likes to pretend strike at everyone, including me. He gets mad and bites his own leg and flips his wings out at you. He almost broke my thumb one time. But we usually get along pretty well...

If my boss would let me take home any bird in the shop, it would be Nina, the African Grey. She's just wonderful.

We use to have a saying at the shop with regard to birds, "He who flinches first loses." A lot of birds mouth everything, kinda like a baby. Eclectus are famous for putting fingers in their beaks. People unfamiliar with this behavior only see a large bird with a fierce looking beak coming at them and they pull away. The bird either startles at the fast movement or sees it as a chance to put the person in their place; ie Pecking Order. Sometimes it takes a lot of "bites" before the bird accepts you into their flock. You are a brave guy to keep going back to gain the trust of that macaw. I've been bitten so often I've lost track and macaw always let a mark. Even when they don't really mean to. Thanks for the photos. You have real talent.
