Pokie noses! Babies have arrived (graphic and sad ending)

Oh Elle, I don't know if it's quite right to say congratulations on the babies, although I suppose it is, so congratulations! I really really hope this helps to rule out IBD in any more of your collection, it was heartbreaking when you lost Clementine and I wouldn't want to see you go through any of that again, so good luck! :)

Aww that last little normal is just precious! Are they het blood? The little orange stripey and the belly pattern on the one pictured look like het blood indicators to me.

I knew I saw some normals lighter than others. This is a perfect contrast shot!

5 more babies out this morning :) 6 more pipping...

I use no extra lighting whatsoever. Just the on body camera flash. Although I slow down the shutter speed to around /60.

More pictures from the incubator tonight. A total of 12 healthy babies out. Averaging 7 grams. One at 5, one at 9! 4 more pipped, 2 more left.

A nice selection of light and dark babies. Some are very intensley coloured. I'm looking forward to first sheds :)

Another 3 babies out this morning. One has me worried, it's dragging along placenta! About an inch or so. I have however tubed it with moist clean kitchen towel. Will the wee thing absorb it or just drop it? Have I done the right thing by taking it out the dirty incubator?

I have had one survive it by doing so! It dried and dropped. I guess if the 'belly button' hole is only tiny, it has a good chance. Good luck with it!

I guess it will be fine, keeping it on damp kitchen towel. Maybe in this case, since the hole is closed, it might even be better to keep it on dry paper towel, since it wil dry and fall off easier, now that I think of it I might have done that with the one I had.... I found the attachment dried and stuck to a hide. The baby was ok.

I only kept one on wet paper towel that had a huge hole (relatively to its size). That one had to go visit the king snake later though.

Maybe wait till another breeder shares his experience with this and then decide what to do, I'm not that experienced after all...

Ah just checked on him, and the wee placenta thingie has fallen off :) He is active and bitey and the hole has already crusted over :) Looking good! AND my last two eggs are pipping. Almost all done!

Those have got to be some of the cutest pip pictures I've ever seen! Sorry to hear of your IBD boa. I hope that with this testing results turn out well and you can put your mind to some ease.

Well, I just decided to slit the last egg today. Everyone else had hatched apart form it. It was a small egg. Inside was something very strange. A twisted tiny baby with the majority of it's insides... on the outside. And all attached to this big white sack?! The wee dear was alive. After taking these shots I prompty euthanised it (NOT by freezing, some may be glad to know).

So in the end I have a clutch of 17 healthy normal corns. I can't complain...

Wow, first time I've seen this around here.... weird... even weirder that is was alive... interesting to see though, thanks!
