possible new morph? You decide

just throwing my two cents in, i told this dude that his snake was a normal after he was spamming the things picture all over the facebook groups.. i know a normal when i see one. he completely ignored me and was like "i will be naming the new morph as soon as it sheds" and claiming to be a reputable breeder. In my opinion, if various people tell you what you have is not what you think, and you continue to brag about making a new morph, you are incompetent. He claims to be a corn snake expert. :|

Just curious what FB group?

Interesting.

I wonder if posted that slander stuff he was boasting about on those as well?

If I was a betting person, I believe most of the attitude was derived from us not clambering all over him about making a new morph. It was painfully obvious that he needed lessons in genetics, and snake he was posting was a neonate motley of some type that had not gone through it's first shed. It is nearly impossible to fully gauge a hatchlings true colors right out of the egg. That snakes will look drastically different after a few sheds.

Just because you hatched it and have never seen one like it, does not a new morph make.

I wasn't asking if he knew about the post-shed color change, or about late-bloomers, to belittle him. I was just asking if he was aware of them. I don't know how many clutches he's hatched. The late-bloomer effect is not that well-known or documented.

I find it interesting he is trying to gather votes for a small business grants through Fedex. He claims to have 8 snakes and 4 babies, I think and wants to buy better morphs so he can provide for his daughters. I don't know but off hand this isn't a way to garner votes. I wonder how Nick would feel if we all went and pointed out how much he needs to learn on his FB. Sad really sad.

He wants to breed corn snakes to provide for his family?

Well, gee.... It must have been rather painful for this fella to have his bubble so thoroughly burst here. I have gotten quite a few pictures sent to me over the years from some obvious newbies who hatched out motleys, and having never seen one before got all excited and tingly thinking they had hatched out something brand new. So yeah, I've had my own share of bubble busting, I suppose. I guess it must really hurt to see their envisioned fame and "fortune" go right out the window like that.

Quite frankly: Normal Motley Corn Snake. Having any corn have differences in pigment between the front and back dorsal surface is not at all unusual. It honestly, ANYONE making broad claims simply looking at a freshly hatched corn before it's first shed is just being down right silly, in my opinion. So, if you can get an offer of $20 for it, TAKE IT!

BTW, I only stopped in here after reading an email from this guy......

Looks like this fella was the one who got shoved on out the door. :shrugs:

But I'm guessing he will be back after the ban expires.......... He appears to have quite a learning disability.

Really hate to see a fellow Kentuckian acting like he did on here, I do apologise for the rest of us here. Not all of us are like that. Well maybe are a few more here lol

I kind of hope he does come back, with a little better attitude of course. I understand him getting miffed at the infraction -he seemed to feel he didn't say "My new morph will be $100 dollars" and therefore didn't advertise. I kind of felt bad for him at that point. Poor guy already thought he had hatched the next big thing. Of course, it was hard to feel sorry for him long.

Another problem is in the thread title: "You decide".

Nobody gets to "decide" what's a new morph. The breeder of a suspected new morph runs breeding trials for a generation or two to prove it out. That way everyone "knows" and nobody has to "decide". Or even "guess".

It can be common for non-genetic variants to pop out of a clutch due to environmental factors - anyone else noting the mould bloom in his incubation box? Some really striking effects can prove to be non-inheritable. Although in this case, I'm going with the vote that any discrepancies in colour will be corrected after two or three sheds.

So I guess we'll see him back here in six years time for the definitive answer.

DYK I read the rules to that FedEx thing and I don't believe he is eligible anyway. You must have a business license and I think a tax ID number and stuff. I highly doubt that he has that or even read the rules.

Yikes. Man, if those little girls don't just ADORE corn snakes, a collection of them isn't going to be much of a gift to inherit. The last thing breeding corn snakes is these days is lucrative. In 2010, I quit even keeping an income/expenditure list, I didn't want to see it. I like them, love breeding them, and have a good enough job that I can afford to stay in the hobby. If it at all came down to money vs. time invested, I think most of us would have bailed long ago.

wow I saw the pictures of his snakes and what they were in on the devil. They water bowls were filthy. They enclosures looked to have a lot of mold and gunk in them. I caught the last end of this. but I agree those two snakes look like a normal and a ghost. I love normals. They are the next big thing for me lol because everyone is different.

Have you posted a link to this thread? If he threatens with stuff like that, no reason why someone else shouldn't show everyone what he responded with, instead of just snippets selected to make someone else look bad *cough*LIKEFOXNEWS*cough*. Damn cold. :dgrin:

I will be looking for another "normal" soon. Actually an Extreme Okeetee... LOL

What about a Fauxkeetee? :grin01: That reminds me, I need to take some for sale pictures tomorrow!

I hate to say it, but this is the first time I've watched someone melt down to a ban here. Usually I miss out on all of the drama. Better than a soap, but in a way I feel sorry for the guy.

First he doesn't understand genetics, second thinks he knows more than the people here who are quite knowledgeable in the corn snake field and third, thinks he can set up a successful business to leave to his girls? From all I've read here, very few actually make a living in this field and they don't have an attitude like he does.

The really funny thing, in a kinda sick way, is before he flamed out there in the end, many people here would have eventually forgiven him and would have educated and helped him had he pulled his horns in, took his head out of the sand (or where ever he had it hidden) and found some honest humility. Not all, but enough I think. There are always ones who hold a grudge, I know - I'm one of them!

There are very fine people here who are very willing to help and teach, as long a you show them you're learning and trying to find the answers before asking the questions. But we don't seem to suffer fools gladly here.

Before I forget, I want to thank everyone here for so freely sharing their knowledge.
