Premature Eggs

Looking for opinions on what you guys think is happening. My female was paired up with a male April 4. Today I found two small eggs next to her water dish. While they look kind of good and the shells felt firm, nice white coloring to them. I just cant see the eggs being developed enough in that short of time to be fertile and survive. What do you think?

They're tiny so I don't have much hope :(.

They look okish :p I would incubated them for at least a week or two then candle them to see if there has been any development (ie. veins, redish/pinkish color, etc.). Some eggs are just smaller than others :)

It is very possible she came into season last month or even maybe the month before that and you just couldnt notice. Sunny, one of my females, never shows any signs of ovulation I have to go off of my other female or make up a general time line and breed her when I THINK she is ovulating.

So I wouldnt say they are premature, you just came late up onto the window. I did that a couple years back all of the eggs were slugs but yours still looks like they have a chance.

Was she bred last year? They can retain sperm for a year.
You can try candling them, I have had eggs that I saw veins right away.

No its been two years since she was last bred. She was given to me by a coworker that rescued her from a shelter two years ago. No chance for retained sperm.

I'm wondering the same thing. I bred a pair on 4/6 and the female just had her pre-lay shed today...eggs are eminent. I'll let you know how mine turn out. Those 2 eggs do look fertile though...

I am going through the same thing too. I breed my girl the first time on the 31st and she shed a week ago. Now we are just waiting for eggs.

Well it past the 70 day mark now and Im really starting to worry. The eggs still look good. I candled them and can see the veins are red and in one the very small mass twitched so I know there alive, but there over 70 days and still so under developed. Anyone have any thoughts?

Well that's the other thing. The temps have never been lower than 80 with how warn the weather been here. The average temps have been 87F in the incubator. I don't even keep the incubator on anymore.

Granted 70+ days at that temp doesn't happen to often but it does happen. I think as long as the eggs still look good. I would keep going. I really don't think that you have to much longer to go. Remember when checking the eggs to take a sniff. They will start smelling like fresh cut green peppers a few days before they hatch.

Lol really? I've never heard that before.

Yep, as soon as your box stops smelling dirty and mossy and smells more like a salad you know it is about time. lol
