Pro Exotics Fire!!!

i'm not going to lie. i've definitely cried about this a couple of times today.

while looking at the photos on Facebook, i was practically sobbing.

it just wrenches every part of me that they lost THAT MUCH. their empire, something that has taken them decades to build up.

and to think about all of the reptiles burning to death makes me sick. in the photos you can still see the water dishes that were left behind, and that's pretty much it. this is a huge tragedy in the reptile community, and my heart goes out to them. i'm very sad today :(

The facebook photos made me cry to. You can see how some of the died trying to get away the poor babies.

It is a tragedy for sure. I couldnt believe the pictures. Im surprised even one survived. I wonder how long it will hang on though?

And who cares about the prices of morphs due to this fire. Animals died and their lifes work ruined!

A friend and I were discussing the effect this will have on the hobby. Very sad day in the hobby.

I am a tough cookie to crack, but even i broke down when i saw the pics on their fb. I put my self in their shoes and mi tears flowed, i cant imagine loosing my animals, all those yrs of work and knowing how much they suffered in the process. My heart goes i to them and i hope they can come out of the ashes a new.:( I also hope that the Herp community close to them can rally and come together to help these guys.

It makes you wonder about your own room/facility. I know my room, isn't huge but there's lots of heat tape in there. Lots of room for error. I am hoping to have an off site loacation in the next year or so, and I think I am going to be paranoid! I think a lot of keepers are going to be paranoid now. I mean Pro Exotics had some of the highest-end Ball morphs out there. It's a great loss to the community, and it will effect the community. It is a trajedy and it will take along time for them to re-build.

This is so horrible, those pictures.......so incredibly sad.
Gave me nightmares last night...

Back in the mid 90s I knew someone here in RI who knew them well.
If I remember correctly they were colaberating on a breeding project with Solomon Island skinks (aka monkeytails).

All I can say is it's very unfortunate and the price of Desert Balls is going to go through the roof....well for males anyway.

Really? Really?!?

These guys lose their lively hood, 1,000 of animals lose their lives and this is what you come up with?

That's cold.

All I can say is it's very unfortunate and the price of Desert Balls is going to go through the roof....well for males anyway.

I'm going to echo other sentiments here by saying who CARES about the price of morphs? One of the giants in the herp industry who has done SO much for us by not only creating new morphs, but cultivating new blood lines of captive bred animals that had only been available as imports before, as well as their creation of a way for the everyday hobbyist to ship, has lost their entire lifes work. A comment like that in a time like this is rather insensitive and uncalled for.

There's enough of the morphs out there. The line will continue, even if at a higher price than they had been at. So what? Prices fluctuate. What the community should do now (and looks like it is doing via Facebook and iHerp) is help Chad and Robyn pick up the remains of what had once been their livelihood, and move past this horrible tragedy, and worry less about how this is going to effect the cost of what they have.

Okay, so can we not get side-tracked into a David you're so insensitive thread. I'm sure he got the message.

I am just saying there will be an effect on the community. I have said it before, I don't sugar coat, and that's how I am. Yes, the community will feel this. As stated, I talked to several breeders and keepers last night that are in the Ball Python community, and their will be an effect. The Desert Ball is very coveted right now, and Chad had some cutting edge projects. I mean, they were a huge company, and they had a huge customer base. I feel sorry that they lost all that work and money. I just was expressing the effect they herp community will feel.

SO terribly sad! I feel for the family and of course the animals. I can't understand how some can worry about morphs and such at a time like this, but that's me I guess.
