Queston for hunters...

We shall always disagree on taking action against those who threaten the homestead. No problem. I will just again reiterate I do not consider myself one who will harm anyone else without justification.

As a soldier and an officer, I feel I should not make statements on my personal opinions on the war or our objectives in the middle east. I will only only say I followed my orders, did what was asked of me by my country, and tried my best to ensure that those I was responsible for, including myself, came back in one piece. I did what I had to do. I only hope you can respect this.

I do, truthfully.

I do not hold a soldier responsible for the decisions that lead to war. It is an unfortunate reality that all too often soldiers are ordered to fight wars that do not need to be fought. I won't ask you to debate with me on the validity of the war you have fought - I only say this to assure you that regardless of my feelings for war, the soldiers fighting it have my respect and admiration.

This certainly did stray from "Is ammo hard to get?" but I always enjoy a good debate. Sooooo, back to topic. Can anyone get 7.62 right now? As someone said earlier, I can't even find the cheap stuff, which isn't even that cheap anymore. Just looking for some target rounds to put down some paper with the old SKS at the Rod and Gun club.

I disagree. There is no reason a socialist economic system cannot be paired with a democratic 'free' government, especially since we're talking in degrees of gray, and not black and white extremes....
You are correct there is no reason a democratic 'free' government and a socialist economic system can't be paired. But your attempt to separate the two is somewhat illusory. The two become very intertwined to the point of being one entity.

... Parts of Canada (Such as BC) has only government provided insurance. Under the Health Care Act, it is illegal to provide private health insurance (Althought the Supreme Court struck down the law in Quebec). ....
This is a good example of loss of individual control. Why would it need to be illegal to provide private health insurance? Governmental control aka loss of individual control? If the socialist way is better why would any Canadian want private insurance? Didn't The Supreme Court, as part of the Quebec ruling, sight that access to government insurance does not equate to access to healthcare?

....I also disagree that Americans enjoy the most liberty of any present day society. ...
We will have to agree to disagree on this.

...Your government has eroded your liberties and many economic policies that hide under the guise of 'free market' limit choices....
This is the complaint of many here. That erosion is being caused by a shift towards a socialist society by government.

...I have the freedom to choose any doctor, visit any hospital, get any necessary treatment even though I don't make much money and live in one of the most expensive cities in Canada...
As long as it is one that the government has authorized in the socialist system, correct?

... I went 22 years between hospital visits. In the past six months a host of health issues have cropped up related to my heart and kidneys. It has cost me around $160 in total for all the tests and treatments I have had - were I in the US and uninsured, I would not have the freedom to seek out treatment simply because I would not have enough money....
Sorry to hear of your health issues. I wish you well.

Has the fighting changed anything for the better, though? As a soldier (And believe me, I have a great respect for soldiers) do you believe that Americans are safer for the sacrifices you and others like you have made?...
Absolutely!

Drizzt, I wanna rep you, I really, really do, but the oppressive and tyrannical forum will not give me the ability to give you any more rep!

I am a slave!
It is a democratic 'free' government (mods were elected) running a socialist system (what they and Rich decide is what is best for all). :roflmao:

Well, America has not been attacked since we went into Afghanistan and Iraq.

The 'shooting a trespasser' thing is, I don't accept that it is ever okay to shoot someone unless they are actively threatening the life of another. If someone refuses to leave your property, you call the police. If they pull out a knife and start coming at you, by all means, shoot them, but for just trespass?

That IS what I call disregard for others.

Should I stop and ask if they have a gun? or if they want to kill me? or if they are only there for a chat? How would I know?

Turning every break-in into a standoff isn't my idea of being safe, either. Besides, I don't fear a break-in and, going back to 'freedom', I don't think living in fear is all that liberating.

Ya that's what having dozens of kids is for, throw one of them in the way.

I can tell you this: I am not oppressed in my free socialist nation of Canada, one of the few first world nations that was not born in civil war and earned it's independence through diplomacy.

I can tell you this, since moving from Canada 10 yrs ago I feel a lot more freedom in the US than I ever did in Canada .. *shrugs* But what do I know, I am just a stupid Canadian living in the stupid America..

I have np problem shooting someone for being in my home when they are not invited.. That is enough of a threat for my families well being.. Humm call the police? Yeah the cops are going to get there in time to get the person who does not belong .. I think it is disregard my family, space and property.. IMHO, your rights ended when you entered my property uninvited with disregard for my family..

I agree with this 100%. If you are on my property or in my house, and you are not welcome on my property or in my house, you better immediately leave my property or my house, or I will stop you from whatever your intentions are. And believe me, I am not going to sit around and wait to see what your intentions are, I'm going to take you out. It's as simple as that. There are WAY too many nutcases in this world for me to treat a situation like that as "no big deal"...

Kathy, Since you posted this I have paid more attention. I have not found many issues with getting shotgun and rifle ammo. I have however noticed a more difficult time getting typical handgun ammo i.e. 9mm, 45acp, 380

It's been really hard to get ammo anywhere. 7.62 and 7 mil mag is impossible. I haven't had to buy anything for a while as we have a lot of ammo, primers and powder but the guys at work were talking about how hard it was to get even brass and how expensive it's gotten.

Update for Kathy's OP. Kathy since you first posted this I have made it a point to at least look when I am in a store that sells ammo. The typical outdoors places like Gander Mountain seem to still have most ammo though the prices are rising. But places like Walmart that used to have regular stock no longer seem too. In the past few months Walmart has not only been out of most ammo but even when they do have it they now have posted purchasing limits per customer per day.

A couple of places, from what I have seen, have gotten better with the supply. I don't know if the manufactures, have kicked up production a little, but the lack there of, has been a little better. I have also seen the sign for the purchasing limit, too.

I'm finding it pretty easy to find ammo for the .204 Ruger I just got, but then again, that's why I got it. A new outdoor store opened up near here and their hunting section is really, really empty. They can't get any stock in at all still.

Skimming through this I can see it's turned into some sort of debate thread. >__>

*ducks head*

I just wanted to add that I hope that ammunition doesn't get harder to find/expensive. It would suck if the gun hobby got too expensive for me before I had a chance to buy my first gun. XD

I may just go back to reloading if it does.

My friends and I reload. No 30 cal or .22 bullets (.223, etc) to be had. Even powder is becoming scarce. A sports store here in Calgary Alberta gets phone calls from Americans all over the US looking for stock because there's none to be had where they are.

Of course Canada's ridiculous import/export restrictions on firearms and all related items prevents them from selling that way.
