Rant about "searching"

At least now we have a nice big thread to refer people to the next time someone asks "Why to people suggest using the search function?". We can say "do a search, it's been covered".

I personally think this thread should be a sticky or at least required reading before you can make your first post :grin01:

Well hot diggity! I work today and this thread takes off.

Ashley-

Quite frankly, nobody here cares about Aquariumadvice.com. Are you sure that you're simply not posting here to spread the good word about that particular website? You've mentioned it in over half of your posts.

Secondly, in reference to that website being #1----what website do you think is #1 for cornsnakes? That's right, this one.

If you want to leave, then by all means do so, but I think you're being a tad bit immature about it and your expectations of this forum. We are not here to serve you---adapt to how the forum is, or don't---it's fairly simple.

Rich has simply said that he does not have time to answer questions like that. Trust me, I'm aware of his workload after seeing it firsthand---he doesn't have time to sit and answer 100's of emails a day about "is my snake shedding?" or something else.

I don't know if this has already been posted or not, but this forum takes up A LOT of webspace... space that Rich has to pay for. Each post adds to it. I'm not trying to be rude, but since I don't see a contributor button next to your name, you really don't have the room to bitch about people NOT answering every question, every time, when all it will do is take up more web space.

Like has been said before, some people are just tired of being asked the same thing ALL the time. Those people are the one's you will normally see with the most rep points. I'll try to provide answers, but I can only take so much for so long... and I've only been here for a little over a year. Think about how many times Connie, Serp, Carol, Susan, Clint, etc etc have heard those ?'s and yet they still answer them. This is the reason Joe started the FAQ section in the 1st place. FAQ = FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. Being new, you don't quite understand how ridiculously understated "frequently" is in this case...

And before you start criticizing Rich: Um.. have you ever hear of Serpenco???? You have 1 hatchling right? With the amount of ?'s you've been asking, that 1 little guy can be kind of overwhelming right? RICH HANDLES OVER 6000 HATCHLINGS A YEAR!!!!!! Have ya ever hear of the ACR??? Pretty sure Chuck and Connie, 2 more very experienced people, head that. Would you like a registry to track lineage and bloodline as much as possible so you know where you're little guy came from, or would you like to know what to do with a bad shed when there are probably about 6000 other threads that offer answers to the same question? :shrugs:

We will ALL be more than happy to provide you with answers sweetheart... different answers to different questions at different times and different levels of experience... on the search function :)

AN you are really being much too sensitive about the whole search thing. If you want to learn about corn snakes this is the place, it contains a wealth of information and there are some people who answer questions even though they've been asked before. I have learned a lot here on cornsnakes.com and I don't take it personal if my posts don't get a reply or something. I'm here to learn not to be popular! IMO you just have to be a little more thick skinned girl

your right

i just wasn't used to a different way of a forum being managed... i DO take advantage of the search function, and all of my questions were answered.. it was just something i noticed about the way that some of the simple questions were answered, and i guess i can't expect everyone to take time out.

So that said, thank you all for your inputs on my very opinionated thread, i do want to stay becuase ive searched far and wide and this is THE BEST corn snake forum i have found.

No im not a cheerleader for AquariumAdvice... it just happens to be the first forum i ever joined and i really like the community, if you have fish, sure go over there, its a great place, but i realize that this is a good place for corn snakes....

yeah i was being a bit stupid when i said remove me... guess the moderator decided not to... much appreciated.. but thanks to a certain member sending me a message... well i guess ill stick around for the sake of my snake..

ROCK ON
Ashley

Glad you're sticking around. You might've noticed that we're all an opinionated bunch

I'm glad you decided to stick around Ashley! And it was nice to read a long thread on a basically new subject! I only ask that you PLEASE use the search function should you ever have a question about Okeetee corns, especially if it concerns locality versus look! (Being "an opinionated bunch" is putting it very mildly around that particular subject! :) )

No permanent harm done, I suppose. At the very least, maybe a few people learned something from this thread.

Welcome back.

I don't like rants (in english, as I can't express everything I'd like to :grin01:)
so I avoided this topic, but finally Ired it and I want to add one thing :
even if you have really simple question, but when you ask it in a proper way you will end with nice answer, most likely with 2 or 3 links to threads, that cover your problem even deeper.

Bad way :

"My snake dont eat!!!!!!1!11!11oneoneone!!

Good way :

"My newly bought corn hatchling doesn't eat. I bought it from...... and I was informed that it was eating........... etc. etc. "

Just give some basic info. People will be more willing to answer if you spare them asking 15 questions about age, sex, temperature and humidity in tank and other stuff.
I find this page extreme helpful, I learned A LOT here so leaving it because of someting that irrelevant would be... stupid?
