Are there any reptile shows near Washington that you go to? It realy stinks to be up north were none of the shows go on.
 
Washington? Heck no! Even if I was guaranteed $10K in sales there, I still wouldn't travel that far for a show. Sorry!

Actually I have cut out most of the shows anywhere this season. The only other one I have on the books is the Mid Atlantic Show up in Maryland in mid September.
 
Rich, the Chicago NARBC show has you listed as a vendor for theirs in Oct. I was considering going just to see your stuff. Guess that's not going to happen! :awcrap:
 
Sorry, but no. The wife and I decided that the cost of the show to do, along with that 22 hour drive to get up there, is just not worth it. I like their show, but the business we got there doesn't justify the trip. If you consider the packing time, drive time, setup, doing the show, and then driving back and unpacking, it takes a SOLID week out of our lives to do that show.

Quite honestly, if it weren't for the fact that Baltimore is my home town, I would be reluctant to make the trip to the Mid Atlantic show as well. That's a 16 hour drive for us. We do fairly well at that show, but I guess my time is getting more valuable to me lately.

From all of the shows plus the regular workload of taking care of the animals, it has been close to 15 years since the wife and I have had anything even remotely like a vacation. I guess it is finally beginning to wear us down.

Probably not. The way things are going, there will probably be a hurricane trouncing Florida that weekend anyway.....
 
I can't wait for the MARS show! I plan on picking up a number of new babies from you there, Rich! I have a whole list planned out and $400 to blow. Not all of it's going to cornsnakes of course, I have a few other things to pick up as well...

Aw, come on Rich, what's a little 3000 mile trip just to sell a few corns? It'll get you out of the rain :rolleyes: It's probably drier in Washington that Florida now-a-days.
 
Heck, we aren't even going to go to the Tampa show next month, and that's only a 4 hour drive away! Both Connie and I have had our fill of shows for a while. We only have Mid Atlantic on the books, and I'm really not sure what shows we will be doing after that. Maybe not any until Daytona Beach again next August. I think very few people realize how much stress and work is involved doing one of these shows, and it has finally caught up with us....

Maybe I will only do reptile shows where there is a gun show nearby. Give me something to do on Sunday for a few hours when I have had enough of standing behind the tables and talking my throat raw.

Of course, if these hurricanes keep rolling into Florida, we may have to start scheduling shows in places we can be evacuating to, and kill two birds with one stone. :rolleyes:

A lot of times there is a gun show :twoguns: in the next building when the herp show is going on up here. I'll check and see if the one in October is happening at the same time again.

Difficult decisions! I'd be terrified to buy something out of fear that I'd miss buying something else. :eek:

Y'all could always head down to AZ! :-D We didn't even get monsoon this year.

There are herp shows in Little Rock???? I am in Memphis. The closest one to us is in Nashville, and that one is very infrequent. You guys are a lot closer. When are the shows? Is there a website with a schedule?
 
Yes there are shows but there isn't a current website. I'll see about getting you the times and areas we are constantly changing the dates and times and places. LoL :sidestep:
 
I just went the the Philadelphia NARBC show and was very disappointed. TONS of turtles there (and the majority of them were NOT up to par with the 4" law - I still can't figure out why they got away with it - they didn't ask for educational/exporting information to buyers). The place was very cramped, just enough room in the aisles to pass 2 people, which doesn't fly when their are vendors on both sides.
 
Hey, Rich isn't even goin to the crappy old Tallahassee show, which has like no vendors (blah!!!). I dont blame him though, it's really late in the year for some reason, and his supply has got to be really low by now.
 
I've actually been strongly considering dropping most shows from our schedule. When it comes down to the bottom line, shows are really more hassle, stress, and bother then they are worth, as a vendor. I would really rather take a weekend or two that would be taken up doing a show and go to the beach instead.
 
It's interesting how you say that. I always assumed that it was just the opposite, a great way to boost sales for a weekend, but I guess I was wrong. I know I personally love them because the prices are generally so much cheaper, especially when you add in the fact that you dont have to pay for shipping.
