I just registered as a new user on reptilegeeks.com. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun, and I was just wondering how many of you all are users over there? What do you all think of it? I've seen links in a few signatures, but not that many. Just curious. I've been into herps for a while, but I'm just getting involved in the online communities.

I just found it yesterday. I think it's cool that it's like myspace but specifically for herpers. My name on there is Serpentopia.... feel free to add me as a friend.

Vinny, you mean you haven't posted those beautiful Indigos on that site

All I'm gonna say is watch yourself over there. The owner admits to reading private and personal messages through the PM system, and there is a group of people that enjoy harrassing individuals that have different opinions. The harrassers also have the owner "in their pocket", and can get away with anything. They hack accounts, create false profiles, and post false accusations about respected members of the herp community, and the owner allows them free range without repercussions.

It can be a great networking tool, but some of the members make it very miserable to truly speak with a free mind. And if they decide they don't like you, for whatever reason, it is only a matter of time before you get banned, and publicly accused of wrongdoing without proof or evidence.

Use it, and enjoy what the site has to offer. Just watch out for people that pose as "friends" and stab you in the back the moment they decide you aren't "worthy". Racial slurs, false accusations and slander, and an owner that allows it can become a GIANT pain in the hindquarters for someone just looking to hangout and have fun...

It is a great site, IMO. I haven't seen anything bad about it-- and it's def. the best site with profiles for herpers. I feel horrible for coming there for the arcade, though LOL

This is moi.. feel free to add me.

I'm disappointed to say I know some of which Chris speaks. For now, I am waiting to see what is forthcoming. I think much of the trouble happened on the forums, which I didn't use. The site _does_ have some good features, such as the SnakeBytes TV and the video chat (for interviewing herp industry professionals).

I am on RG as well - same user name as here.
I can also vouch for what Chris has stated having seen some of it firsthand. Just be smart when networking there with people you don't know already. Some of them definately are not to be trusted.
That being said - for me - it is another avenue that I can use to advertise my collection and hopefully garner some future sales.

Yeah, I thought about that when I first saw this thread, but I wasn't sure how it applied to a social networking site. We've had myspace threads before. Thankfully, I'm not the only mod here, so I'll let the others evaluate this one... :)
Let me clarify that it's not that big a deal to me, hence the shrug. Maybe a recommendation of being just a little less "in your face" about advertising it so that it doesn't end up rubbing Rich the wrong way??? :shrugs:

Thank you all for the info, and the invites to be friends! I really appreciate it!

and I do appologize if I've stepped on anyone's toes. I certainly didn't mean to, and if I did, I really didn't mean any harm.

Not yet... but soon.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. As a rule of thumb I usually don't put anything in a PM that I wouldn't want everyone to see... here, there, or anywhere else. I haven't seen anything offensive yet or anyone being accused of anything. Of course I only joined yesterday. :shrugs:

I thought the same thing. This new site is no different than myspace and that seemed to be ok in the many threads that myspace was the topic of discussion.

My page has the best playlist, BTW...

I don't know about the "best" playlist... I don't see anything by the Beastie Boys. ;) Lynard Skynard, Metallica, and Rob Zombie would definitely be on my list too.

That's how I took your post, and I agree. :)

I'm on! And people, use the same user name an icon or I won't know who you are! I don't know over half my friends list. It's fun, I like that it's so network-oriented, and that you can have a gallery. I had fun making my home page, I just wish I knew css a little better.

That being said, I like it here better. The forms are more active and I learn more.
