Results of my Midlife Crisis Sale!

Schweeet ride Rich. Congratz !

Don't get bummed out, I once bought an '86 Trans Am I just had to have. ;) Even tho it always needed something, and parts were more because it was a "Trans Am" and not a regular Firebird....I loved having it !

Well, I loved it til I tried driving it in 3 inches of snow...LOL !

Anyway, enjoy...I think you're going to have fun!

Okay... car newbie here... what's the difference between the wheels/tires? Or is it like that whole MIB/MISB thing collectors have going on with smaller items?

Sucks that it was misrepresented though. Mebbe you should start a car-buying BOI? ;)

Wheels are the Aluminum or steel "circles" the rubber tires mount on ! (Grin)

Tires are the black rubber that comes in contatct directly with the pavement. Wheels are made of metal and are what attatches to your car. Basically, wheels are what the tires go on. Make sense?

(Grin) Sorry Kat...was trying to make it as simple as possible for a car "newbie" ! Didn't mean any insult by it....

I think she was wondering about the differences between the C5's and Z06. These are two different models of Vette, a lot like the differences between a GT and a regular car. The Z06 has upgraded standard options that the C5 doesn't. two of the upgrades happen to be larger size tires, and different Wheels. The C5 has single spoke wheels, while the Z06 has twin spoked wheels.

Up here in the North what you all are calling wheels we call rims.

PS. Sweet ride Rich, though impractical for my normal vehicle uses . . . mud holes, plowed fields, minimum maintenance roads, and easily 'feet' of snow.

Wasn't meant to be smartaleck; sorry if it came off that way. I read your question as asking what was the difference between wheels/tires. Now I see that you could be meaning difference between a reg C5 wheels/tires and a Z06 wheels/tires. Anyways, someone already answered that so I'll refrain, but again didn't mean to come off as a smartaleck

The standard Corvette C5 wheel looks like this:

The wheels that come with the Corvette Z06 model look like this:

Looks wise, it doesn't really make that much difference to me, but the REAL difference is that the Z06 wheels (and tires) are 1 inch wider then what is standard on the C5s. I believe the Z06 wheels are also much lighter in weight then the standard wheels. All of the electronics in the Z06 designed for the handling characteristics of those wider tires. There is quite a sophisticated handling package that controls skidding, braking, and overall handling. Not that I will ever drive in such a way where all that will be critical, but heck, if I decide to sell this next year, it will probably be a tough sell with those smaller wheels and tires. I was probably one of the few people who would not have noticed that, because many Corvette owners (or planning to be) are pretty fanatical about details. Heck, I have read MANY accounts where people will not even drive their Corvettes if there is a chance of rain.

I got mine to be a toy and have fun with, not be a garage queen.

One of the things the Corvette tech told me yesterday was that you really need to open up the vette every now and again to clean out the cylinders. He suggested I goose it up to 140 mph every once in a while. When I asked him for a signed statement to give to the arresting officer, he declined, however. :grin01:

Man, I wish I didn't have to just let it sit over the weekend waiting for the new treads.........

On another note, I actually thought of taking my BoardOfInquiry.com domain name and setting up a general purpose BOI site. Not sure I could survive the additional headaches though.. :crazy02:

Guess I should have been more specific... not so much a car newbie as a 'collector car' newbie... But I think Rich answered my question best... if it makes a difference in how the car drives, it's pretty darned important.

Years ago I worked in a service station...you'd be amazed how many people don't know the difference between tires and wheels... :shrugs:

Haha

I work in a body shop, and we get people like that all the time. It's funny when people come in saying, I had a flat wheel....It takes so much not to laugh at them. First off, who says they have a flat wheel????

Straight up Dawg!

Ya be da shizzle fo real if’in ya’ll hung some 24" spinners on that hoopty.

Peace out!

Well the new wheels and tires should be in this week. I'll tell you, it was about killing me to not be able to drive the vette all weekend. I felt like some little kid in that I wanted to just sit in the driver seat and pretend I was driving around. Just couldn't chance it on those threadbare tires to go out cruising around. But hopefully by this upcoming weekend everything will be squared away.

I guess I should be thinking about some sort of special sale to drum up money to pay for those wheels and tires, eh?

Hello, Rich! I'm new to the forums and to corn snakes, but not to midlife crises. My hubby got me a vintage '87 MR2 a few years back, including a mechanic to make sure it runs well. Even got the performance chip.

Enjoy your new ride. And you were smart to wait for the new wheels and tires. Making a 90 degree turn at 60 mph is hell if the tires go in the process!

Would it be out of line, do you think, to start a poll on how long it will be until you get your first ticket in that thing??!! :sidestep:

You mean like a lottery? Hey maybe that would be a good way to build up an emergency speeding ticket fund in a hurry! :grin01:
