I love these birds, I've never gotten this close to one before. This guy is 100% wild, never been admitted to the wildlife center, or anything, but for some reason, he has decided that he likes us at Eastern Sierra Wildlife Care, and he hangs around the yard. Usually, I can get to about 3' from him before he takes off. Sometimes, when he is feeling particularly bold, he will perch in this peach tree right over the path we all use all the time. He doesn't even flinch when we all duck to walk underneath the branch he is perched on. Of course, we rarely pay him any attention, so he really has no reason to be afraid, but still...

Great shot! I love the touch of iridescence that goes from the the eye to the back of the head!

Very kewl, Chris! We've lived here in Mesa for 7 years and just recently have begun seeing them here too! They've always been a favorite of mine as well.

They are just awesome birds!

WOW, very impressive picture!!! My mom and I just admired it for a few minutes together. I love that even though the depth of field is pretty shallow the part of the bird that is in focus is very rich in details.

You should make your own calender!

That's pretty cool. We had an Oriole here that wasn't afraid of anyone. You could get really close to him. Almost close enough to touch him and he wouldn't fly away.

That is one EXCELLENT photo! I love the crisp, clean details on the face and neck. I love the colors and the composition and the expression on its face and in its eyes. Beautiful!
