Rosie is growing!

As well as enjoying walking with my sister and the dogs having so much fun, it was a good day for seeing ducks and waders, as well as a family of swans and a wheatear

I'm still being cautious about my usual walks with Rosie, because the man with the dogs that attacked her is now walking 7 staff/staff mix/pitbulls over there that are not safe for her to play with, so we are doing lots of lead walking instead. Today though we met my sister down the estuary and country park, even though it started out a grey and miserable day with the rain getting heavy at first I got rewarded by seeing a grebe, pintail duck, brent geese and mallards and by Rosie having such a great time!

We met up with my sister, who was walking Porridge, Henry and Brock, which meant Rosie could charge around having fun with her 'cousins'

The jack russells tried to show Rosie how rabbiting should be done, in return she taught them how to catch and kill a plastic bottle

I usually try to look in on this thread when I see it updated. I missed hearing about Rosie being attacked. Sorry to hear that Janine. Hope all is well with both her and yourself.

Thanks, she really is such a joy. I could have spent this rainy day indoors on the sofa but having a dog to keep you company makes tramping around in the fresh air so much more fun!
The attack was October last year. Since then the owner of the rogue dogs has continued to ignore notices to keep his dogs under control and got more (he had 4 at that time) His dogs have atacked at least 3 others over the last year and he is due to appear in court later this month. I don't know if he'll be fined or have the dogs taken away from him, but he is adamant that his dogs aren't a problem and that they only attack if other dogs are 'too submissive'
Rosie was lucky that she got away with scrapes and grazes, I know of one dog that lost an ear thanks to the pack that attacked her. She's slightly more cautious of strange dogs, but plays enthusiastically if they are friendly with her

Rosie surely has the best life a dog can have!
I do try to give her a good amount of fun in her life. When I don't walk her because of other commitments the boys take her out on shorter walks but don't trust her recall enough to let her off-lead, so she gets to use her 30' tracker lead then in open spaces. I also make sure to take her out in the town too, so she can indulge in her hobby of meeting and greeting strangers.
Yesterday was a vet visit for check-up and booster shots, as far as Rosie was concerned it meant she met a whole lot of new admirers and new dogs. She loves the vet too, no matter what he does to her her tail is wagging the whole time annd she was kissing him straight after her injections were done!

My parent's old dog did not even want to walk into the street where the vet was located (after he had been forced to vomit a couple of times because he ate poisonous plants). He just sat down and had to dragged or carried, being a Irish setter male... Rosie is either too dumb to make the connection or she is just amazingly forgiving :p

I'd like to say it's because she's so sweet.............but in reality I do believe she's got two brain cells and uses only one at a time! :)

LOL somehow I knew you would say so :)
I say it because it's the most likely explanation for a dog that actively pulls you to the vets! Rosie really treats it like a grand social occasion, she wants to go into the examination room before it's her turn then she gets excited being put up on the table for her examination. I'd say a look of dim puzzlement comes over her when she actually has an injection, but she's too stupid to have anything but a sunny outlook on life's experiences. Today's grand total from rabbiting = lots of aimless charging about and I got closer to a rabbit than she did all day when I accidentally flushed one when she was running in the wrong direction. But she did 'kill' a plastic bottle, with very convincing growls and drop it at my feet.

I've found a new, safe area for Rosie to run around and have fun just around the corner from me. So today when I got in from work she got to charge around and 'kill' a monkey on a rope.

Thanks for the updates, Janine. Glad you found a close place to letter her run.
Rosie loves to run! Finding a safe area near home where she won't get attacked is a real bonus. Tomorrow we're off on a walk to the riverside though, so she can play with her 'cousins'.

So this week Rosie yet again missed the huge rabbit that lives in the undergrowth she was checking out here! Then Brock found a dead seabird, so there was an orgy of rolling and squirming on its corpse. We risked a visit to the fields she used to go to everyday and met a lovely whippet puppy called Ellis as well as some of Rosie's reguar playmates.

Just a few pics from today, I was feeling rotten but Rosie needed to run, so out we went. It started raining pretty hard so I had to put the camera away, so these are the best I could get of Rosie enjoying an autumn day.

A wet and wild visit to the estuary today. Got soaked between boots and coat, I need to get waterproof trousers, because while the rest of me was fine my legs are chilled to the bone.
Rosie had a great time playing with Porridge and the dogs we meet down there regularly, the tide was out and great conditions for seeing waders, including the resident little egret and a lapwing.
