Rosie is growing!

Hope she has a quick recovery! My smallest dog was awful with her stitches and had to wear the cone of silence. lol
Luckily I'm not back to work 'til tomorrow night and the boys are off college due to the snow, so Rosie isn't alone for a minute to get the chance to get at the stitches. Her spay wound doesn''t seem to bother her at all, it's her feet she's been trying to worry at.

Snow...

Hope she's better, soon, Janine. She looks so sweet.

I once had an IG who had to have his dew claws off because he tore them and they started bleeding when he played to rough and rowdy.

My vet said sight hounds weren't that smart, so not to expect too much.
So I taught mine to retrieve and obey hand signals and walk with no leash. The vet had to eat his words.

Thanks Eric. I can't wait for her to be better so we can enjoy the snow together.
I don't think Rosie's not smart, I just think she's got a pretty short attention span! She can sit or balance up on her hindlegs from hand signals and her recall is pretty solid...........unless her attention is caught by something she needs to investigate (usually another dog in the distance) Even then she actually does break off her run and come back to me @ 1/2 the time now, so she's improving. She can retrieve now too, only for short sessions so it's an exciting game for her with me being really enthusiastic over her successes.

Oh my poor baby! Rosie's been worrying her feet and made them bleed, so up to the vet today, new dressings on and a course of antibiotics. Her stitches have to stay in until Saturday and no outside play for her in the meantime.

We have an epileptic chichuahua that has to get medication twice a day. We hide it in a piece of hot dog. We now call it his crack because when it's getting close to pill time he starts pacing and whining because he knows he's going to get a treat.

THAT'S the toughest pill for her to swallow, I imagine!
I am really missing our playtimes outside. Rosie got really excited going to the vets, she's such a sociable gal that she loves meeting people just being out for a walk as much as the actual running about when she's off-lead in the fields!

Hurrrah! All the stitches out and I can take Rosie out for a run tomorow. No more dressings on her feet. Today we had her favourite vet, the young Spanish guy she's absolutely in love with. Him taking out the stitches meant he got a million kisses from Rosie.

We went for a walk 'round the block again tonight, with Rosie just so excited. So out for a proper walk tomorrow!

Rosie had a wonderful time at the estuary, finding some nice dogs to play with and charging around at top speed, until she opened up the wound on her right leg in the sedges where the ponds are dried up. It bled quite freely, so I brought her home. So, back to the vets tomorrow morning for us.

I'm sorry to hear she opened up her wound. I was hoping this was the end of Rosie having to be cooped up. Hopefully this isn't a very long setback. It looks like she was truly enjoying her freedom. ):

Back to the vet, another social occasion for Rosie to thoroughly enjoy. The good news is that the wound has lots of granulation tissue, with no sign of infection. Because she's so active it'll take longer to heal up, basically I just have to expect her to reopen it a few times when she runs.
I wish her breeder had removed the dew claws at 5 days, which is normal procedure for lurchers. In hindsight I also wish I'd had the op done when I first got her, before she was such an active girlie.

Today is Rosie's 2nd birthday, so of course we've had a long walk out in the snow!

There were plenty of birds to see and tons of rabbits about. Rosie was totally oblivious to all the rabbits until just as we were about to come home (and of course after I'd put my camera away).
She spotted a rabbit in the clearing where she's half-heartedly bounced after them before, stealthily circled around to another path and made a breathtakingly beautiful full out run of over 100 metres, just missing the rabbit at the end of the chase when it dived into brambles!

That frozen water photo is fantastic!
Thanks, I was really happy with some of today's photos, although I was mainly just playing with Rosie rather than taking a lot of them. I love the country park, nature reserve and river walk in all seasons, and I've got the pictures I like best in a file on facebook. I do wish I'd got a picture of Rosie's rabbit hunt because she suddenly changed from goofing around in the snow to this beautiful predator in action and I don't think I've ever seen her run that fast before.
