sad craigslist story

yeah i post classifieds a lot with the title "un-wanted corns" on craigslist and say i will give a good home to unwanted corns. ive had people contact me from "$50 you can take it" to my corn bites when you try to grab it, pick her up n u can have her"

but lately someone has been flagging my post as soon as i post it. stupid really. there should be more rules to the flagging thing. maybe you could "suggest post be flagged" and have employees or something to check and remove. (i know craigslist is making money, even if its a free service.)

sorry off topic, but still makes me mad.

Maybe the ppl that flag you think you might be one of those ppl that take fee animals and re-sell them. I know your not but they might not think twice before flagging if you know what I mean.

All my craigslist corns have been healthy when I adopted them, but the owners still didn't know much about them, including what morph they were. I had to tell all of them. Then they all turned out to be females :D which is neat, so now I have a male on hold for two of them.

yeah thats possible. i actually just got an email a guy that has 2 corns he needs to rehome. told me if im serious he would send me pics. one is a year old the other is 3 years old. i have a feeling a rehoming fee will be there though, he just seems like that kind of guy, considering he is also trying to get rid of a leopard gecko and bearded dragon.

This is just so sad to see. I am a mom to 2 amels and now I have a very big soft spot for that color. They're just such sweeties if raised right. My baby, Wishbone, rode around on my head the other night while I was thawing mice. I so want more snakes but I better get my own "snake shed" before I do or the the very tolerant hubby may divorce me!

We had a new client come into the hospital recently with a corgi she had adopted "real cheap" off of craigslist. The dog was a sweetie, the lady seemed really interested in being a responsible owner and was getting her shots updated. I could tell the dog had been bred frequently which was probably why she was more mellow than any corgi I've seen before. Turned out the dog was positive for heartworms! That so pissed me off! The heartworm test is what $30. ? $30.00 to find out wether your dog is clear for heartworms and 4 other tick born diseases. Who can't afford that? Especially if they were breeding dogs! Said cheap dog suddenly turned into a really expensive dog! All for the want of a $30. test the previous owner somehow never got around to!

Hehe.... "snake shed" :) How expensive is spaying and neutering? I was at a friends house and she was complaining that her dog was in heat and getting blood all over everything (nasty) and I suggested she get her spayed but she said she didnt have the money. I said I thought it was like $10 or $20 and she said "Oh, well then maybe my mom just wants to breed her in future." More chi-dogs. Just what the world needs.

Actually spays & neuters can be QUITE expensive. Over $100 often. There are free & low cost services but it takes some hunting to find them. I adopted a cat who was not spayed from an acquaintance because her vet was saying they would charge $200 to spay a healthy young cat! She just didn't have the money. I ended up paying $150. She's a great cat & I love her to pieces so it all worked out but that is a lot of money.

So as I sit here drinking my caffeine and reading this thread there is a post on our local craigslist for a 3.5ft corn snake with everything for 100 and they need to get rid of it asap. Argh! If only I didnt have to save the money for moving later on this month. Quick, someone invent teleporters!

Lexie, spays for dogs are usually around $200, depending on the size of the dog. When I wanted to get Maggie (55 pound boxer mix) done by my usual vet, it was going to cost me, if I recall, around $230, plus extra for take home pain meds if she needed them. And that is on the low end here, my vet is very reasonably priced. I ended up getting her done by our local low cost clinic (which is run by a vet I know and trust) for $120.

You could also contact the local SPCA. Sometimes they have clinics for free or reduced cost

In 2006 I paid $180 plus (I think the total was $320) to have my rat Billiejo spayed and have a tumor removed. I STILL don't regret it, as the dear girl was with me an additional 11 months because of it.

I paid 50$...but its because I had a good sob story, and the Vet clinic people were amazing. My kitty had a lot of issues so I was spending a lot of money on her at the clinic already. They pretty much just threw it in with everything else we were doing. She's doing great now, but getting her to the healthy adult she has been (and *knock on wood* she will remain) has been hard work.
My local clinic is also an animal shelter. I try to volunteer there a couple times a week so they know me pretty well by now. At the time I'd never been there before, so thats why I say they were amazing. :)
That story about the corgi with heartworms hit home, the main issue with my cat was parasites on a very young, weak animal. That could have been prevented and really gets under my skin...(<--- I promise thats not a tick and flea joke...;))

There are programs that offer low cost spay/neuter for those that are cash strapped. One of the programs I believe is sponsored by local humane societies is called a "snap" certificate. But you may have to find a vet that honors it, ( not all do ) and sometimes vets accept it but won't tell you about it, you've got to mention it first. There are some vets that feel if you don't have the $$$ why do you have a pet??? Don't get discouraged. Not all feel that way. The poor economy has changed a lot of people's ability to afford general pet care. Personally I believe every vet should move heaven and hell to spay and neuter as many pets as possible because it would greatly help the overpopulation of dogs and cats in America. Just good ethics if you ask me!

Preventing a disease or a unwanted pregnancy is a helluva lot cheaper than treating the disease or paying for pups!

My Jasper is a shelter dog. They only give you so many days to get them fixed. It was up to $440 here to get him fixed. I was freaking when someone told me about calling the SPCA (our dog came from the county animal shelter) since they work with a vet about an hour and a half away who does low cost neutering and spaying. So I called them, took Jasper to them and they transported him to the clinic and brought him back the next day. He was $90 to adopt ($65 of it was the deposit for the neutering) and $87 to have him neutered and rabies shot. Then the shelter gave us the $65 back. Sure beats the $440!
