Country boy gone wild
I am now completely fed up all of the vegans, vegeterians, (and peta for that matter) and everyone else who is telling me that "you need to go veg to save the planet. there are children dying when they could be eating the food that the animals such as cows eat!" I'm tired of everyone saying that beef and all other kind of meat is good. They just don't get it. THEY JUST DONT. here is one of those stupid videos that they are making:
http://www.youtube.com/group/BeVeganNOW

So those kids want to eat HAY? I DONT THINK THEY WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE A PLATE OF GRASS!!!!!! Show me some hardcore truth that GW is real. i can give you one fact that shows its not. WORLD TEMPS ARE GOING DOWN. THEY HAVE BEEN FOR 9 YEARS. I am tired of the bull crap! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Rant over.

Rant over.

Im one of *those* people. If you do the research it would make huge difference

Working at a fair trade, organic, co-op run company, I empathize with the general feeling of what your saying. There are many people who are very high on themselves and low on others who do not think the same way...and many of these people (in my area, in my experiance) DO hold vegitarian or vegan lifestyles as a requirement for either A) saving the planet or B) living a healthy lifestyle and C) being a good person.
That being said, i have pretty strong feelings about having opinions force fed down my throat about -anything- and that is my main problem with these lifestyle choices...when they begin to affect how people treat me because I do not share these values. I dont like being told that to be a good person I have to do/say/think any way other than my own.
There are many vegetarian/vegan/world saving/global warming fearing/etc etc people who are very nice, do not try to force their belifes on anyone, and are amoung my very best friends. Personally, I own three high quality leather jackets (one with a fur collar), eat meat every day, and the greenest thing i do in the run of a day is recycle the pepsi can from lunch. We still get along ok. :)
I wish that everyone could live and think the way they do while accepting that other people simply dont live or think that way...and thats OK. :)

Global warming is a proven scientific fact. The debate is over what the cause is.

Frankly I don't know many vegans/moral vegetarians who aren't self-involved and have very holier-than-thou attitudes... not saying all of them are, I just haven't met one that wasn't.

Anytime the word "all" or "most" are used to describe ANY group of people, the conversation pretty much ends. There's not enough scientific data to even make a case for your rant about global warming, let alone the very broad brush you just painted so many with. Vegans/Vegetarians are people... are they not? And being people, they are prone to ignorance, arrogance, and self righteousness, just as much as everyone else.

Personally, I feel like being sufficient, healthy, and having high regard for all life is a wonderful thing, so I value the Vegan/Vegetarian lifestyle for some of their decisions. To label them as a whole is completely off track, just as it would be for them to judge those who share different lifestyles.

I think the rant was a little out of touch, and a little misplaced. I can see what you were trying to get across, but it was just too one sided and overly generalized, as well as misinformed, so I'm just not in agreement!

Your posts are so awesome. I couldn't agree more. Also, a lot of my friends are meat eaters and there are no issues. I don't force it on anyone. It's also a very spiritual choice for me.

I was listening to this song when I first started to read this post and had to reply with the lyrics. It is only the first part of the song.

Disgustipated by TOOL:

And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber.
And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest.
And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil.
One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear.
And terror possessed me then.
And I begged,
"Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?"
And the angel said unto me,
"These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!
You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust."
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared,
"Hear me now, I have seen the light!
They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul!
Damn you!
Let the rabbits wear glasses!
Save our brothers!"
Can I get an amen?
Can I get a hallelujah?
Thank you Jesus.
Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on........

This is necessary.

I don't know many vegan/veggie people personally. I love rare steaks and have never eaten tofu.
Politically I am libertarian with a slight bend to the right.

That said, I imagine ANY group of people with strong beliefs (political, religious, dietary, green, whathaveyou), have a certain percentage of militant asshats among them.

I am sure that Tara and I have huge differences of opinion about alot of things, but she seems a genuinely nice person and a great mother.
When you get right down to it, good people are good people, and asshats are asshats, whether you agree with them or not! :)

I see your "Disgustipated" (sounds like a bathroom nighmare), and I raise you a "Mercy, Mercy, Me", by the great Marvin Gaye!

I know vegans and vegetarians - none of them are remotely preachy and have no trouble sitting at a table with me while I eat meat. They view it as a personal choice; if they're asked about their choice they'll give an opinion, but otherwise they accept and respect alternative choices.

And I'd also be interested in seeing the sources that cover recent global cooling. Even my uber-skeptical uni lecturers agree that it's actually warming (one is a UK government advisor on the subject), they just dispute the notion that it has an anthropogenic cause.

We go to our friends house for big BBQs all the time. We just bring our veggie burgers no big deal. Also they are die hard Christians and we are Pagan. Never had a problem.

I have a few Vegan friends. Most have talked to me about there choice but never have they pushed it on me. They know when they come over I will have something on the menu for them and they do the same for me. Infact I think it was me who asked them why they choose the lifestyle(diet style) they did.

I get the jist of the rant. And though I am not on the whole global warming kick either. Personally, I think earth cycles through periods of time.(Heck at one time there was an ice age.) I still try to do my part and recycle, and pick up after myself. Making sure I can leave as little behind for someone else to worry about. I think it is just smart to do.
and I hope people come around to see what they can do to help out.

Source please...

Radio shows i listen to, newspaper articles, websites.

Maybe you should tell those people who made that youtube video i posted to do some research......... I really don't think kids want to eat hay! grass! silage! whatever!

Thanks for the support :) (same to everyone else who gave some support)

Global warming is a proven scientific fact.
Give me facts, statistics. Basically some RAW FACTS. (algore crap from his movie doesn't count.)

Don't get on me about painting with a broad brush....

This is just kind of for fun: If you like his posts, I can name your political party in one word. Democrat.

Carrots do not have a soul. And we don't grow carrots in the Midwest. (this is another mis-informed instance of city people about the country and farms)

What i am getting at is that I don't like the vegans and stuff who tell me that eating meat is bad for the earth and say that i am killing kids if i eat a steak. If you want to not eat meat, go ahead. Thats your decision. But don't try to tell me how to live MY LIFE. I had a friend tell me once that if i didn't believe in global warming i was an idiot. And then she told me that cattle were hurting the planet. AND SHE IS NOT EVEN A VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN!

Thats pretty close to what i think... I don't think if its getting warmer that its very much, and if it is its not going to be the end of the world...

My kids don't eat grass. We eat vegan ribs, vegan cheese, vegan burgers, vegan hot dogs. My kids wouldn't even know they were vegan unless I told them. I do agree that people who force it on you is the wrong approach. I feel by setting an example my voice is louder rather than actually speaking about it. If my example changes someone eles's diet than super duper! If it doesn't I will still have a meat option at my house when you come over.

You can do the research....it's out there. Im not into prooving my point really. Just get the info (it's out there) and figure it out for yourself.
We all know vegans and vegetarians have longer life expectancy and lower cancer rates. That's enough for me right there.
Im also vegan due to my religon.

My kids don't eat grass! We eat vegan ribs, vegan burgers, vegan hotdogs, vegan cheese, vegan anything we crave or want!
My kids wouldn't know we are vegan if I didn't tell them.

Get the info....do the research! Im not going to do it for you just to proove you wrong, that's really not my style.

Just go easy on us vegans. Not all of us are pushy. My meat eating friends when invited over for bbqs or dinner I always provide a meat option.
