A couple of points...
1. I am not required to act as a mod in every post I make. I was out of line last night, but I was clearly willing to accept the consequeces. I haven't received any warnings yet, but if I'm able, I will give myself infraction points.
2. While heated political discussions may be fun and harmless to some, they usually result in more work for the mods. If you haven't spent a week using all of the little cs.com time you have reading and responding to dozens of trivial reports, then you may not understand the situation as well as you think.
The reported post was viewed, reviewed and taken care of in the manner I saw most fitting. The use of "whiny bitch" may be offensive to some (probably those that closely resemble that remark...but I've learned to not let it get to me anymore), but really, my Mom just got a new dog...a bitch...and yes, she does whine alot, especially when she need to go out and go potty. What's the big deal?
Some of you may be remembering a time when the mod team really cracked down on the use of colorful language, but we have been told to let the small stuff pass. Most of us are adults here and generally behave in an adult manner. When it gets down to the use of flagrant profanity...such as the "F" word, the "C" word, and stuff like that, we must put a halt to that. Now if someone crosses that wavy gray line and starts name-calling just because they can't do anything else, or just creates havoc, more so than just a good heated political debate, we'll have to stop that as well.
One or two members were in that gray area recently in at least one thread, but I refrained from moderating it because I had made several posts in that thread myself and could not moderate in a completely unbiased manner. I would rather have one of the other mods take the reins instead in that particular case. Dean made this thread. Mike and Jeff have remained silent (by the way, is Mike even still alive?).
And as some of you have mentioned, if threads like that are not your cup of tea, don't read them! There is a reason I stay away from the DYK thread, and often, the political ones just get a glance. I just couldn' resist some of the recent ones...the material posted by some was just too good not to read!
I'm going to bed now, and then will be getting ready for Daytona tomorrow. Dean...I will be eagerly awaiting my hug...but you should know that hubby has a carry permit....
