Tumor in snakes

Lt. Dan

New member
Greetings all, I am very saddened today due to the loss of one of my boys. Lieutenant Dan had to be put to sleep yesterday. The result of necropsy determined he had a very bad tumor of the liver which caused him abdominal swelling and resulted in 2 regurges and losing massive weight. There was not much that could have been done to save him. I made the choice of humanely euthanizing him and having a necropsy done to determine not only the cause but to rule out or find crypto. If it had been crypto my other boys lives could've been endangered. The only good news here is that it was not crypto.
I've decided to keep my screen name in his memory and honor for the kindest amel I've rescued. Everyone I ever talk to about snakes loved "Lt. Dan". Rest in peace my little soldier, you brought happiness to many simply in name if nothing more. You brought peace and joy to my world for the short time we've had together.

RIP Lt. Dan. You don't know how fortunate you were to have a caretaker who could and would get you the proper medical care, a peaceful passing, and even an examination after death to protect your surviving friends. Your dad is one in a million.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Ray. Thank God it wasn't worse news.

“We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan.”

Sorry for your loss :(

I congratulate you, Ray, for being such a compassionate caregiver !

R.I.P. Lt. Dan

So sorry for your loss! At least you have the consolation of knowing that you did everything possible, both for Lt. Dan, and for the rest of your collection. But it is still very difficult to lose a pet that has been so important to you. My thoughts are with you!

I am so sorry for the loss of Lt. Dan. You were an amazing dad to him, not many people would bother to have him necropsied to ensure the health of your other kids. Please keep the name, that way we will all remember him.

Scalebaby hugs,
Michelle

Thank you everyone! You've all been so kind and thoughtful with your words. This is not just a forum about snakes. It's a family and I'm honored to be part of it. Bless you all.
