Weird Issues with Page Loading

I'm not blaming the removal of the dragons. I didn't have any dragons. The day just sticks in my mind because of the uproar. I was thinking "The evil dragons are gone, but the site is having worse problems than ever."

I know you weren't blaming it on the removal :))), but it does seem a bit more than coincidence if that is indeed when the problem started. Considering all the communication that was going back and forth between that site and this one, some little "worm" (for lack of a better name) may have been created/left behind and it's causing problems now. I'm not computer literate enough to know if something like that is even possible, it's just a thought. I'll put my one brain cell to bed now because everything it thinks about lately starts taking on a SciFi/take over the world/just plain weird theme and it's starting to scare me. The voices have been too quiet recently as well...

My computer, running Ubuntu (Hardy Heron distro), and using Firefox to view delightful internet pages, keeps popping up asking me if I want to "Save the .php file".

I'll add another post to this thread next time it happens again, but it's been going on for a few days, and happens whenever I try to load a NEW page most of the time.

Anyone else having this problem? Unfortunately, it's making the site more and more unusable.

Any thoughts, anyone?
My problem with pages NOT loading intermittently (for this site only) occurs on both my work computer (Internet Explorer) AND my home computer (Safari on G5 iMac). It started about Thursday or Friday, March 26 or 27. For me.

Seems that the problem is getting worse. About every 2 out of 3 new page openings as well as submissions (replies, new threads, PMs, etc) gives me a blank white page, and then it resends it no matter if I try to refresh, go back to simply look, open another window to see if it posted, etc. And don't even talk to me about adding attachments! And I spent hours yesterday on other sites and didn't have a single problem, just on this site.

Same here, Susan. I'm wondering if this is happening on Fauna or any of Rich's other sites?

I just went over to Fauna for a bit and had the same issues. I'm sure Rich is just jumping for joy over server issues in the middle of breeding season. Somebody lock up his gun safe! ;)

It's been happening with me as well, and I'm here using either Chrome or Firefox on WinXP, and Firefox on Unbuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibis) distro.

About two weeks now....generally, it's resolved with refreshing the page, but it's a PITA.

Echoing Susan's post #21, I do wonder about some residual left behind with the server(s) from the "dragon" site.

I'm having the blank problem as well.
One of the blank pages happened right after I replied to a thread. My post was not recognized as new (new posts page) and I was not automatically subscribed to the thread. I had to post again, even though my post was there (double posting, sorry!).

Honestly, no real chance of that.

All it was doing was pulling down the graphic. Considering that the problems occurred AFTER they were removed, instead of clearing up, I would vote for it is unrelated.

Considering the links were self-inserted, and those of us with them were able to change from one link to another and remove them with no issues, I highly doubt that mass-removal is a related issue. I actually have better success navigating the dragcave.net pages then I do navigating here a large portion of the time.

My vote would be some variety of bandwidth issue, or perhaps a recent browser update doesn't know how to handle the .php pages.

While I tend to deal more with making your internet connection WORK then on routing, I DO actually know how the internet works.

Oh well :)

Any word on the server reboot, Rich?

And I had been having lesser versions of this issue at Fauna, and nowhere else.

I've had a few instances of page timeouts myself on this site, but nothing like that on my other sites on this server. My server guy tells me there was a big update done to the server operating system not that long ago, so I have asked him to look into this, referencing this thread as evidence of the problems.

As for the server reboot, when I went into the server admin page, I saw that the server had already been rebooted about 9 minutes before I got there. So either something failed and the server auto-booted, or my server guy was doing something there.

Yeah, I REALLY need this right NOW.......

Thank you Rich for looking into this. I did copy one of the page errors, that I am getting, just to show you.

I am getting this and a completely white page!

The server guy is looking into it right now...........

He must be doing something as I've been able to open multiple threads, post replies and download attachments, etc for the past 30 minutes without having those problems!

My server guy reverted the server back to the older version of the operating system. How have things been running here lately?

I've noticed less loading errors when im on my comp. and Ipod, but when im on my phone its really slow.. but i guess that's to be expected.

I agree. No more blank pages and I haven't had any problems managing attatchments today. However, everything has been loading very slowly.

I have uploaded several pictures yesterday and have had no problems at all. I do agree that page loading is a little slow but that might just be my computer or internet connection rather than the site.

As I mentioned earlier, I have had no problems with the blank white pages or with managing attachments, but it does sometimes take much longer to load a page. Not always, just sometimes.
