well.... Isn't this every snake keepers nightmare?

I'd go to the police right away! Man just hearing about that makes me hate PETA freaks even more than i already do!

Hope you find your snakes soon!

Yea, I agree with everyone else. I hope your next update for us involves either contact with the police or the return of your two missing snakes.

snakemoms right if i did that (NEVER WOULD cos I LOVE SNAKES) then id wish i got arrested before my mam got her hands on me....sorry i have no advice, my corn got out once but was in my sock drawer cos i guess its nice and snug...really hope u find them and really hope she dusn get away with this seriously what a horrible lil girl.. best of luck to ya

I reiterate the "don't wait!" message.

When I was 17, I was stalked and the guy tried to break into my house. I was so scared that all I did was hide for many hours before finally calling my Grandma. SHE called the cops and my mother, and when the cops finally arrived, hours later, they said they weren't going to do anything, because for all they knew I had an argument with my boyfriend. I was enraged and hurt by their attitude.

So time is definitely of the essence. They may still be able to find fingerprints, but they may not even bother trying if you wait too long. :/

Some good news, and some bad news..

Good news is, I turned all the lights out, and checked after 30 minutes, and the 3 year old female was out for a wander, found her.. and put her back in her cage..

bad news is... Tonight is oddly cold (even for canada at this time of year) and the room temp is sitting at 67 currently, I've placed a few UTH's and spot lames with CHE's around the room to make hot spots.. lets hope it raises the ambient temps, and the snake finds its way to one of these spots!

LAWSUIT. Short, sweet, and to the point. Track down your receipts, and file suit against the brat. I would have called the police the second I walked in the front door and saw what happened. I would have classified it as animal cruelty.

You should probably explain it like this to the parents:
"How would you feel if I went over to your house and put your car in neutral at the top of the hill and let it roam wherever it felt? Even though that's not what might be best for the car."

I'm not sure about American laws, but up here, they pretty much said they can't do anything more than a warning ~unless~ I can PROVE it killed my animals, in other words.. if I find one dead, I can take legal action.. untill then, they can give her a warning, talk to the parents, and thats about it..

What about the one you can't find? How do they know she didn't steal it and sell it to someone? That is, quite frankly, a load of bull. They have no idea what you've invested in those animals. If this happened to a dog or cat, I'm sure they'd be ALL over it.

I don't even know how to begin my response here... I am SO angry I just... GRAH! I would have gone BALLISTIC. Yelling, screaming, guh, wow, I can't even imagine. It sucks that the police can't do anything without evidence or a dead animal... God, I can't believe that little brat. The snakes are your PETS.

That's like letting someones family dog loose in the middle of winter with no food or water just because you aren't a dog person. Freaking stupid. Who is SHE to say what should or should not be a pet? If you where keeping something very large or very dangerous, then maybe it shouldn't be a pet but carpet pythons? Boas? Seriously. The fact that her parents didn't care and even AGREED with their daughter is infuriating.

Honestly, I think it's time for a good ol' fashioned beat down.

That little snot tried killing your pets. She was putting them in danger by letting them out, does she not have a brain? Seriously. Fricken... grrrrr.... GAH! I don't even know what to say anymore.

I'd be seeing red right now. Actually, I am seeing red, and they're not even my snakes. If I came home and found out someone had been messing with Cornwallis, or one of my cats, they'd wish the police got to them before Adam or I did. Even if all the police can do is go the girl's house and warn her, I say have them do it. Put the fear of God into her. I'd definitely got a lock for your snake room door, or locks for the individual cages as well. I do hope you find your missing snake. I'm thinking since it's so cold in your house, he may very well still be in your warm snake room somewhere. Snakes are dumb, but they have survival instinct. I gotta think he'd want to stay put. Granted, I don't know much about that particular species.

Couldn't hurt to have a talk with your sister about what her friends do when they're in your house, too. I hope she's as upset as you are about this. Man, if my mom had ever found out I'd done this in someone else's house when I was a kid, she'd have beat me senseless with a serving spoon! Seems like parental discipline's gone downhill since I was a kid. Good luck to you!

Vicky, PETA freaks don't care about the welfare of an animal beyond releasing it from captivity. PETA leaders have been recorded saying it would be better for an animal to be dead than to be a pet. They also have an astounding track record of euthanising perfectly healthy animals that they received as owner surrenders instead of adopting them out. They are horrible people and the only thing they *actually* care about is their own ability to act morally superior.

Me too. I love animals, often more than I love people, but PETA is one non-profit that is never seeing a dime of my money, ever. They suck and care nothing for animals.

Instead, I'll donate to the ASPCA.

I bet if you had a lawyer friend that called the police department on your behalf they'd do something;) I would still have the cops issue the warning for you and formerly press charges. Do you guys have commissioners there? You can file a charge with them which means she goes to court and can be charged and fined:)

ok, so i only read ryans first post cause this threads to much for me to read before hittin the pillow. but peta to me reminds me of the kkk. full of ignorant people that have one person with a stupid viewpoint and then everyone just repeats exactly what they say because they have not enough brains to think on their own.

any chance of filing a police report to have such a dumb person for destruction or tampering with property. id try at least. even if you find them all itd still keep her away for good hopefully so she learns that peta and keepin snakes in captivity have nothing to do together.

I'm going to give it till Friday before I go to the police, thats two more night searches for them. I notified the parents and they didn't seem to care, they said snakes weren't meant as pets anyways... I told them If I didn't find them by Friday, I'd be going to the police and pressing any possible charges if they weren't willing to cooperate or repay me for my losses,

Its already below 0 up here in canada, and outside the snake room the house gets very cold....

Don't wait. The longer you wait to report it to the police, the harder it is going to be to prove malicious intent, as well as value. Afterall...if they are worth so much, why wait a week to file charges?

In this case, I have to agree with Brent. She did what she did, whether you find them all or not. She has no right to release your animals regardless of being invited into the house.

If it were me, the asteps I would take would be first to call the police, than to call her parents and inform them that the police have been contacted, and you will expect retribution for their child's actions, if the snakes do not turn up healthy.

The police action is for breaking the law. Contacting the parents is for the money you are likely to lose. SHould be easy enough, if you remember where you got the snakes, to get a copy of the bill of sale, or a certified letter of value from the breeder...

Personally I just hope you'll get them all back,
Since her mother(according to your own post) is no better than her sweetheart of a daughter... I don't see how the police would change things.
Regardless- go file a complaint ASAP and have the paperwork you need to allow yourself the option of legal pursuit if one of the animals die.
Also, if at all possible, make sure you RECORD the conversation if you phone them again, either that or do so by e-mail/mail.

You know I find it amusing that they'd advocate releasing animals into the wild when, if their stupidity is as great as it looks, they wouldn't have survived natural selection either.

Buddy, you are a far more patient and forgiving person than I am! I am sure, I would have been tazered at some point, during all of this. How you are keeping your cool, is beyond me? :shrugs:

I am so glad that you have been able to find the majority of snakes. I am keeping my fingers crossed about the last hold out. I do agree with the majority of the people and also suggest that you file a complaint, with your local PD. It definitely cannot hurt and maybe a visit, by an officer, will force this girl and her parents, to realize that seriousness of the situation.

I don't know the laws in Canada, but I would suggest that you check the laws, before recording any conversation. I know that, here in my state, it is illegal to record a conversation, without both parties consent or if you have a warrant. Just an FYI!

I would also, start looking for any receipts or docs that represent the value of the lost snake and turn that over to the PD as well. If you don't have receipt, find a picture of your animal, if you have one, do a comparison to one that may be for sale on another site(s) in an attempt to show the value.

Good Luck my friend and I am pulling for ya!

Wayne

Best of luck to you. I understand your hesitation in involving the law - accusation without proof is a sticky thing. At any rate, you need to make sure this doesn't happen again by installing a lock on your door, at the very least.

You might want to demand the police file some kind of report. Even if it's just a record of you saying what you are claiming happened. Down the road you may find the snakes and then one dies of exposure, RI whatever, at least you've been on record for when the cops claim it counts- after the monetary loss. You need to start setting up a history as soon as possible.

I hope you find the last one!
