This is just my personal opinion. I think new morphs will always be popular, but I think selective breeding is a great way to go. For example, I was at the NE Reptile Expo, and picked up a Bloodred and Anery Bloodred. I got them both for a combined 110$, and although some may still consider that expensive, I liked their appearence more than the most expensive morphs. My Anery Bloodred looks so light, he looks more like a Ghost than Anery. And if you put him with the 175-200$ Ghost Bloodreds, you probably couldn't tell the difference. Same for the Bloodred. He is so red, and he has literally no pattern on his side. So I think he will add more impressive genetics to other "projects", than a new Bloodred Morph, based on his unusual color and diffusion.
I agree with alot of the posts here as well. You should invest in a type of Corn Snake that you like, otherwise why bother breeding. I am excited to get any babies this spring, seeing I have never bred any of my snakes before. And I would be thrilled with normals, although I'm sure more experienced breeders may not. But I always buy the snakes that are most appealing to me. I bought my Anery Bloodred for 85$, over two ABR's from a different breeder that were 40$. I got him because I loved his appearance, not so much because he is an Anery Bloodred, but his genetics will be great for breeding. And compared to the very similair looking Ghost Bloodred's for 175$, I thought it was an excellent deal.
I'm not sure if this really helps your question, but I'm just trying to share my thoughts. I feel that there is so much variation among snakes of the same morph, that people should start focusing less on the "newest" morph, and more on perfecting existing morphs. I'm sure Butter's could get more yellow, Bloodred's could be more red, and have better diffusion, and that's the route I might take.
