What's wrong with this baby?

As far as I know this little amel has had no extra trauma so I don't think this is bruising... but it almost looks like it has freckles. The pictures below show what I mean. I seem to recall someone else on here having an amel with a similar condition. Is it dangerous? I noticed it while it was in the middle of a shed and the baby seems to be acting perfectly normal. Also, even one of it's eyes appear darker and you can see that there is some black color BEHIND it's eye showing through. (Not sure if it's obvious in the pictures but you can sure tell in person).

Here are the pics:

Have you tried wiping the areas with a damp cloth to see if it picked some dirt up, while rubbing to get the shed off?

Another possibility is that it's got some melanin coming through, that it really shouldn't have because it's an Amel, but weirder things have happened :)

It is a strange diffusion of black.
Is he born in your house? Can you see someone of his brothers?
It seems a paradox! It would be helpful if you could post some zoomed pics of the scales.
I've never seen live a chase, but i've read that sometimes in snakes you can see hemmorrhage in the scales's border in chase of septicaemia. (However, in your shots i can see that dark colour is not in the border, but diffused..) It can be caused from different factors: stomatitis, dermatitis with bapterical, mycotical or parasitary origin.
I suggest you a veterinarian visit and to isolate this snake; Be sure that his substrate isn't humid (this can cause a bacterical proliferation between scales.), disinfect his viv and all struments, clean his water container and change it frequently. You can lift up a little the temperature also to your other animals.

I'll wait your shots, hoping it isn't only a paradox chase!
Ilaria.

This baby is from a clutch that I hatched out myself so I have all of his/her brothers and sisters. None of them have this discoloration so I'm hoping it just some sort of birthmark. It's definitely not ink from newspaper (as I have them in individual containers with just a small water dish and a piece of kleenex), and it can't be wiped off. It's almost like it's JUST below his/her skin... I will try to get some closer shots in the morning. Thank you for your help so far... I hope we can figure out what this is...

..and imagine how dark he will be in the future!!
Open a progression thread! *__*

Interesting to say the least. Does it eat? Does it poop? If all is good and looks good, could be a paradox! And if so, congrats! That would be a keeper. Keep us posted! I am definately interested in seeing how this one turns out. Hopefully not on the negative note but at least we will have better idea whats up with your hatchling. Good luck!

As for the eyes, amels all tend to have that effect (though you're seeing it in person, I think you'd definitely know if it was more than usual or different then the usual..) when they are viewed at an angle..
But that freckling is pretty darn cool! I'll be watching for more of this guy!

Hopefully, it is not something else, but, to me, it looks like a Paradox.
Also, (at least in these photos) if you take note, the black spots are on its borders (areas where it would be black if the snake were not an Amel).

Yes, this baby is just as healthy as the rest. A few of them (including this one) had a little trouble shedding, but I believe it was just because there wasn't enough humidity in their containers. With a little help everyone is doing great now ^_^.

So he/she is a Paradox huh? Wonder how much THAT sells for :crazy01:. Haha, just kidding. I think I'm keeping him/her anyway. It's just too darn cute! I think I might name him/her Freckles ^_^.

Someone requested a close-up pic. I haven't snapped any new ones but I took the full quality verson of the best one I had and cropped it so I could show the close up version of it. And yes, it definitely looks like the black is on the borders, where the black would normally be...

Here's the pic:

Don't know if this helps you out with this particular case, but I have a normal Corn. A couple of days after I bought her, I noticed that her left eye is blue and the right is black. It's the reason I named her VooDoo.
I recently took Voodoo to a local Vet that has a dr there that specializes in Exotics.
This guy was EXTEMELY good with the snake, and he noticed that eye color variance right off the bat. He also pointed out that there was some slight discoloration of the scales around the blue eye and asked me If I had noticed that, or did I notice a change in her behavior the last few days. . . I told him no, and said that I noticed that eye color variation right after I had bought her almost 8 weeks prior to taking her to see the VET.
He said that he'd seen that type discoloration before and it turned out to be an infection under the scales, and hes had to cut the scales away in a couple of cases to relieve the infection. . . but said since she had those markings for at least 8 weeks and she showed no signs of behavioral changes, he said it was probably just a birth defect or she had suffered some type of trauma when she was younger. Like being bitten in a fight or something of that nature.
Since yours is young, it's probably just a natural birth defect.
