What's your favorite breed of dog?

Yeah, big surprise there - LOL! How is Bo doing??

I had him out for the first set of "serious" drills since the fall. Let's just say it's "spring training" for the both of us.

He turned 8 in January, and there are now some "distinguished" grey hairs on his chin and muzzle. I figure he's got a few years in him yet, and then it'll be time for his rightfully earned retirement....and I'll have a pup annoying the *two* old men in the house. ;-)

Dale do you just work him for exercise and keeping his abilities sharp or do the two of you work in real hunt situations?

My favorite dog breed has to be German Shepherds. They are so intelligent, vigilant, loving, protective, athletic, and many other things... but more importantly, because of Ciana. She's my absolute pride and joy :D!

My next favorite has to be the highly sought after Dachshund mix, like Rajon. He's a rescue, and couldn't be any sweeter or more loving. He's far from vigilant, protective, etc... but he's a love ball, and I love him to death!

Another breed that I always have, and always will love, is the Maltese. They are just wonderful dogs, and I can't think of a more personable companion (other than Ciana of course :) ). They're very brave, smart, loyal, and are right there by your side when you need them. My first dog, Jason, was a Maltese. I got him as a Christmas present from my mother when I was 9years old, and he was my absolute best friend. He passed away a few years ago, due to a heart condition, but I'll always keep him close to my heart.

After he passed, I realized that I needed another dog, because my life was just too lonely. And although I decided to get a German Shepherd, Maltese' are always going to be among my favorite dogs. Last winter my mother got a Maltese, as she really missed Jason as much as I did, and he's also a lovable ball of joy.

Anyways, I pretty much love all dogs, so breed isn't too important. But to name breeds from my experience, I would say German Shepherds and Maltese' have to be right at the top.

Yes. ;-)

He's a hunter (as am I), but it's been a while since we've both been afield (last bird bagged was early '08), so it was just bumpers yesterday. I reconnected with a HS friend in December, and he has an open invite for the two of us to head out to his hunt club.

I'm aiming for him to get back up to snuff by mid-May.

I have read of retired gun dogs being really frustated when the young ones get to go hunting and they don't. Is that true? And will he have that problem, do you think?

I have that problem when I go outside to mow the lawn. By his line of reasoning, every time I step outside should and must be time for him to go hunting.

It's one of the things I find both admirable and infuriating about him. :D

Dale,
Let's say (hypothetically speaking of course) that you decide to go hunt for some truffles. Now, we all know that pigs are the best truffle hunters, would this canine friend of yours get upset with the pig on such an assignment, or would he let it go simply because truffle hunting simply requires a pig?

Also, after several pms I have been informed that the proper name for "hot dogs" is actually "weiners", I apologize for the confusion that might have ensued after my previous post in this thread.

While there are many breeds that I love, my ultimate dream dog is a

Blenheim (chestnut & white) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

German Sheperd - Most loyal companion you will ever have. They will protect your family as well.

Weiner Dogs - Not really good for anything but hey they put a smile on my face.

Well I love my Malamute and shepherd mix....but I love love love great swiss mountain dogs

I'm a fan of big dogs like Huskies, Malamutes, Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Great Danes, and Cane Corsos. I also like Greyhounds, Weimaraners and Vizslas. I'm sure I'm forgeting a breed but those are my main favorites, along with mutts(my first dog was a mutt).

I have a black and white papillon who is the SWEETEST dog, his name is Legend:

But I think I want a bigger dog next like a husky, malamute, or German shepherd...or possily a great dane.

I love all of them, as long as they are rescues, old and unwanted, and are going to cost me lots of money!

Old beagle! They are certainly one breed which don't age gracefully aren't they. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. I love old grey beagles!
