Life with Crescent

That last picture is amazing. It never ceases to amaze me some of the things snakes do with their bodies. And the "drop down from above" is one of those awesome things.

I have the drop down captured but it came out blurry as heck, I love watching him, it is amazing to watch...they are so curious

Well I pissed Crescent off, I have been good, I have not handled or bothered him but, I saw him in his log and honestly, he looked dead. I have a long wooden dow rod I use with him because I read that you should always poke him with an inanimate object before picking him up. So I use a wooden rod. Anyway I poked him gently and he didn't move, I poked him again and he still didn't move, I got sick to my stomach thinking he had died so I went to pick him up and he was just sleeping but I had woke him up and he was pissed...Im sorry lil fella.I cant help it, I worry.

Sorry but that made me lol, mostly with relief! I know how much you love the sweet lil worm, and I am really looking forward to seeing his adult colors. I love ROS!! (and Crescent is top notch!)

Thanks,I cant wait for him to grow, He was pissed, he looked like he was gonna strike, I think he was thinking to himself, "WTF did he wake me for."

I'm not sure where you read you should poke your snake with something before picking it up, but any of my snakes would be extremely ticked off if I did that...

This is what I read, im paraphrasing here, but the theory is this, you should gently touch him with an inanimate object to get his attention so he is not startled by your touch so in the future he wont associate being startled with my hand.

You obviously disagree. See, there are so many articles out there, how do you know what's right and what's not???

I obviously trust you guys here !!! If no one does this then my bad...again.

I don't think I've ever read you should poke them with an inanimate object. Not gonna say if it's "right or wrong" as there is little right or wrong in this department. But I would personally assume that would lead to a greater sense of startling, and possible future cage defensiveness/aggressiveness. Getting used to your hand, especially as something that's going to try to grab it but not kill it, is a pretty important part of early snake behavioral development.

Again, there's absolutely no "right or wrong" in this situation, just personal opinion and relative experience. I should warn (as I'm sure you probably already know, but hey, obligatory warnings eh) that you should definitely be careful if poking your snake with *anything*, especially at a young age.

Finally, glad to hear he was ok, just sleeping. Many times I've thought Plissken and Isis were dead when they were sleeping. Sort of a system shock getting used to something that will spend so long (especially during daylight hours) just laying there comatose like.

Gotcha, but I will search for that article and post it so you don't think I am making this up.

I don't think you are making this up, not at all.
The logic makes sense, in some ways anyway so it is a given that someone, somewhere would write that it is how things should be done.

As for me, I just listen to Nanci. :)

Agreed, definitely don't think you're making anything up. The internet contains lots of information, lots of opinions, and lots of examples of ways to do things. And again, not saying it's wrong at all. In fact, I have no factual basis for my statements about it except assumptions based on personal experience and knowledge I've picked up off of well... the internet, lol!

I actually read that article before I got affiliated with CornSnakes.com

Crescents favorite spot at night is hanging out on the wire for the Cool Side Thermometer.

That's cute. It's cool that he likes to climb. All Melody does is hide under her waterbowl. Crescent is absolutely gorgeous. He looks see almost see-through!

Hes a climber for sure, he spends more time up top than anywhere, and he utilizes everything I have places in his enclosure. I love that about him.

They love it up in that little crack. You could get him a bunch of suction cup vines- then he can sleep in the leaves.
