Yowza yowza at the 400+ folks! Do you do this full time?
Every once and a while a buyer asks me if I have A THOUSAND + babies to sell, and/or a vendor mentions they buy by the thousand from someone. I always wonder how someone can do that!! Nothing wrong with it, just sounds incredible. I got the impression even Rich Z doesn't produce that many babies to wholesale.
Oh I certainly wholesale a chunk, it's just seems like it would be dull to make thousands of "low end" corns for wholesale. :shrugs: Not that a normal corn is less neat than a fancy-pants striped-ultra-hypo-goldbrick-plasma-cinder (or whatever!), in it's own way. Not judging just hard to imagine having that many pairs all wholesale. Is it even profitable?
I thought about breeding more as I did wholesale some last year, but I would still have to do the work to get them eating, and at about $12 a head for non- high demand morphs it wasn't worth my while. I would rather breed fewer corns but morphs I can be excited about producing than just breed them because I know I can sell them. I guess it is a question of how patient you are, how much time you have to spend, and how badly you need money. If I wasn't working now I'd probably be breeding the females that I gave a year off to.
It's not a matter of breeding them because I know I can sell them. I roll my own, so there are a lot of offspring that are bi-products of my desired results. When you're aiming for a 1/64 you tend to produce a lot of possible hets. I wholesale a bunch of those. I'm not pairing up 5 pairs of Snows to so I can wholesale the offspring.

Yea I understand working from hets is not the same as just pairing up any old snake just because it is a breeding size female. I am sorry, if you thought that was aimed at you. I will be doing the same next year working from poss hets with probably a lot of not-so-in-demand by-products, to prove out some poss het cinders.
I hope it didn't seem like I was offended. I had typed out this long detailed response, and when I went to submit it I got a "cannot display," message and I lost the whole thing. I re-typed a much more condensed explanation and apparently it reads as me being short. Hopefully no offense taken on your end...

One thing about this thread, when we are all mostly just doing the pairings right now, how can we possibly know how many eggs there will be per clutch or how many of those will go on to hatch? My five pairings could go either way, I could get small clutches and just a few snakes or they could all be huge ones and I could be "over run" as Timmah says. Murphy could just make every single egg go bad, as well :flames:
