Large rodent delivery with pics. now happy

whippet

Tara
So last time Lauren and I ordered rodents we went with the mouse factory because of the good things we had read about them. Everyone was right. They were well packed, clean, fat, and wonderful. This time the order was larger, and the MF had raised the costs...so we took the risk and ordered from RodentPro. Boy I wish we hadn't. I am NOT impressed.
- the rodents are filthy
- the bags are not vacume sealed and some are already getting freezer burned.
- the dry ice in the box was loose!!! I burned my fingertips when opening the box. I had a hell of a time moving it out of the way without hurting myself. Just CHUNKS of dry ice.
- bags are not labeled...so it's a guessing game on what they are calling each size.
- SOME of the rat pups were soft and defrosting! It was delivered at 11 am...very early at a very cool time of the year. There is no excuse for thawed rodents.

Never again. Never.
I will be writing to the company. This is rediculous. We paid over 500 bucks for these things.

EDIT...well after talking to the company they are replaceing several of the bags of rodents and providing free shipping on the next delivery. So I am pleased for now. Not sure yet if I will reorder from them...but I am satisfied for now.

Anyway... we also got our first chest freezer just for rodents. LOL! Enjoy the pictures!

One of the perks of having a wholesaler in town, I don't have to deal with that mess, I can just look at them and buy what I want. Sorry for the disappointment, Tara. Hopefully they'll all be ok for ya.

Sounds like my experience every time I cheat on TMF. I only mail-order cheated once, and like you, was horrified and burned my fingers on the LOOSE dry ice, and a bunch of the bags were busted open. Fortunately, Gourmet Rodent is in town. Mice are loose in bags, with poop, all crunched up and not laid out straight and neat- but no shipping. So I cheap out and get those when I have to...

I ordered and received from them as well and was disappointed also. They were by far the cheapest so I just kinda brushed it aside. I already knew about the non-vacumn packed bags so I was prepared for that, thank goodness (went out a bought a food saver just for that purpose) They shorted me 50 fuzzies and sent me an additional 50 large pinks instead. I think I will be able to use the large pinks...sooo..oh well... I guess...My bags like yours were not labeled either and the bag of fuzzies did absolutely smell like rodent droppings for sure. Yuck. When it is time to order again I am not sure what path I will take, if I will try again with them or go somewhere else.

Congrats on the extra freezer

The chest freezer looks great, though!!

I bought mice from Gourmet Rodent on a Friday afternoon to deliver to Katie Saturday. They were fine. There's no excuse for anything thawing out until the third day, IMO.

(I just can't shut up, I guess...) To me, unless you are saving a tremendous amount like I do by not paying shipping, saving a few pennies per item just is not worth dirty pee-smelling mice with poo pellets and bedding included. TMF mice are gorgeous, odor-free, and ready to keep for months and months in their nice vacuum packaging. They even make cool arrangements with colored rats!

Totally agreed. I really loved the meat packageing style and easy to see labels. We fed from them for over 6 months with no freezerburn or problems. I will eat the extra money next time.

I get my mice from RodentPro at the local show and am usually pleased with their product. Maybe they just skimp (a lot) on the shipping process...:shrugs:

I ordered from RodentPro too. My mice were nice & clean, not smelly, no bedding or droppings, and frozen solid with lots of packaged dry ice in the shipping container. They were a little bigger than expected, but that's OK. Weird. Makes me afraid to order from them again but TMF is ~so~ expensive.

I think she was talking about Rodent Factory.. I as well get mine from Rodent Pro at the local shows. I think I get good mice from them everytime. Haven't really had a problem..

nope it was Rodentpro, I had a typo that I fixed. I called them and they will call me back but should be replacing the pups that defrosted anyway.

Sorry you had this bad experience with them, Tara. I have always ordered from them and NOT been disappointed. However, based on your experience, I will no longer "suggest" them in the inevitable "Where do I buy feeders?" threads.

I hope they make it right by you.

I also have had good experiences with rodent pro. My bags are always labeled, no bedding, poop, or smell, I have a vacuum sealer, and the dry ice is never loose. I would ask for a partial refund or something thats crappy....literally:(

I too have never had an issue with RodentPro. I've ordered from them for 3 or 4 years and have always been satisfied. There was one time that the fuzzies in one bag were pretty varied in size, but other than that I've never had problems with dirty or defrosted mice. I'm so sorry you had a problem with them. I've heard that their customer service is great, I'm sure they'll try to make it right.

I cheated on TMF... once... and that will be the only time. I also ordered Rodentpro and was so not impressed! I had most of the same problems you did. Most of my rodents are already freezer burned and I have only had them a couple weeks. None were vacuum sealed (which I need because I only order once a year) and even one bag was open. Not satisfied! I think I will stick to TMF from now on.

I have had a few problems with Rodent Pro, but their minimal problems are far outweighed by their minimal prices.

I have ordered from Big Cheese and I think their prices are in between Rodentpro and TMF. I was pretty satisfied with their mice. I would like Rodentpro more if they vacuum packed their mice, but I understand why they dont due to their prices. If you have a lot of animals and plan on using the mice pretty quickly, then its a great deal.

I got my shipment in from Rodent pro today as well. And the only thing I got upset about was the shipping out on Monday instead of Tuesday.
I typically get my stuff on Thursday and I got them today instead. I had to change my work schedule to reflect that.

But to be fair with the actual order itself, everything came in nice. So its not vacuum packed. For me, I go through so much it does not matter. And once the seal is open.. well.. you loose the seal.
But my rats came in clean and looking fine. No issues here.
