BIG Kistachie Cornsnake tonight

Took a cruise down the road I live on and found a BIG Kistachie Cornsnake tonight (6-9-11 Grimes Co., TX). Many of the Kistachie Corns from our area are a nice chestnut/magahogny color. As you get closer & into Louisiana, they tend to get darker... enjoy. It'll be released tomorrow- just wanted to get pics of it!

Was that one fiesty? I have a few Kistachies and our one that is huge has such an attitude problem.

Yep Stormy, most of the WC Kistachies I find are very defensive. Usually with calm handling most will simmer down some.

Whats funny is the one we have that was wild caught years ago has always been really calm. Now our captive bred females on the other hand are very nippy.

What a pretty snake! I love his almost metallic-looking skin and his rich, warm coloration. You ever get tempted to keep something like that when you find them? I think I'd go crazy living where corn snakes are so commonly seen in the wild :).

Same here! I had a hard enough time putting back a super healthy looking garter the other day. I can't imagine if there were corns in my yard!!!

Sometimes its hard BUT I have sooooo many snakes already. I LOVE seeing/finding them in the wild. By just photographing & releasing 'em, it ensures I'll be able to find them hopefully again one day. I rarely keep stuff I find unless it's sometihing I need or a friend needs.

May & June are my best months for finding Kistachies. Found another one this evening ~8:30pm (getting dark around 9:15/30ish)...not as big as the girl last night but still cool! Let her go on her way after the photo. Found this nice big Ribbonsnake about 10 minutes before the Kistachie!

Very Cool Graham, all of them !!
You ever find gravid female Kisatchies? It would be cool to get wild clutches to hatch and see if there are any "morph" traits floaing around out there huh?

I usually hold onto a gravid female or two- releasing them after they drop. On eof my best friends here in town found the SILVER LEAF Kistachie about 15 minutes from my house... Thats the one that KJ got and began breeding! The Silverleafs are very neat!

Sweet finds. I'm glad you release them after the pics. Though I would really be tempted to fatten the second one up before letting it go, it looks so skinny.
