This kinda ties into my other thread with the wild hognose in it. This is the real reason I was at my parents' house. My mother has had this mare Ginger since she was a filly. My parents have bred Arabians for as long as I can remember, but Ginger was more of a pet to mom. She has a huge soft spot for her. She decided to breed her for the 1st time this year. She wasn't actually due until late December/early January. At about 5am this morning, my mother called me freaking out... Ginger went into early labor. Mind you, my mother has delivered a multitude of foals but she is beside herself with nerves. So with camera in tow I go over there, only to arrive just in time to see that Ginger needs no help. She took it all in stride just like a pro. I was lucky to catch a few pics, and even though it has nothing to do with reptiles, I HAD to show off this adorable little filly.

Ginger is a beautiful mare and delivered a beautiful filly. It always amazes me to see how fast foals can stand and walk around.
 
What a cute baby! I've had two mares foal- the first one snuck it on us, and the second one we got to watch. This friend of mine, we used to have foal watch sleepovers in her barn, and never got to see anything, either. It was a fun girls' night out, though!

Thanks guys! She is a doll, and Ginger is making a great 1st time mom so far. The poor little girl (who mom named Saffron) must have tried to get up for about an hour before she could finally stay up. That pic is was her 1st time getting up. She's a feisty one though! From what mom says, she is already trying to hop.

Heh... I get to do that this spring! Now that I think about it, there hasn't been a single birth from my mares that I haven't slept in the barn. I couldn't resist taking a snap shot of Kashay. She's due in February, but you'd never know it by the way she acts.

Tell your mom congrats! What a gorgeously marked filly!!

My friend's Andalusian mare had her first foal about three years ago and spent the first few days following the baby around when he would try to nurse because she couldn't figure out where this tiny horse had come from! She finally figured out that he was her baby and then became the protective, loving mom.
 
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING FOAL....and GORGEOUS GORGEOUS MARE! I would pay anything to have a mare and foal like that! I would love to breed my mares but I do not have the time. Horses are such a pride to have...I don't know what I would do without horses in my life!
 
Wow, she's absolutely beautiful! I bet it was amazing watching her being born as well. There's just something so beautifully breath taking about horses. I'm very happy you shared this with us! In fact if I may, I suggest a progression thread for the little one.
