Breeding a Creamsicle to an Anerythiristic Stripe

Hello Corn Lovers,

I have a 4-5 year old female Anerystristic Stripe corn snake, and my sister just purchased a male 1 year old Creamsicle corn. We're hoping to breed them in the future. My questions are:

1. I understand that the creamsicle corn is a hybrid cross involving the Great Plains Ratsnake, is it fertile and able to reproduce when bred to a pure corn?

2. What visuals would the potential offspring possess? I understand that they would be 100% het for anerythristic and stripe, but what pattern would they carry over?

Any knowledge on the matter is appreciated.

You would get all normals, het amel, het anery, het stripe. The only way you'd get any visual morphs would be if they carried the same hets.

In my personal opinion, as much as I personally like hybrids, I would not breed these snakes. They'll look an awful lot like pure corns, and even though you will label them as hybrids, you cannot guarantee that the buyers will label them as hybrids if they resell them, or if they label any offspring as hybrids. It would just add to this whole mess of things with hybrids out there.
 
I'm really not in this for money, but personal enrichment. I'd be happy selling them as normal hets to my local reptile store. Is there a real reason I should not do this?

Also. You listed het amel -does creamsicle have amel in it? Is it from an amelanistic corn x great plains rat pairing?
 
That would actually be worse. A pet store won't mark them as hybrids and they will end up in somebody's "pure" corn breeding program. I would also suggest getting a nice corn to pair with your Anery Stripe if you decide to breed in the future.

Creamsicle is the Amel version of corn X emoryi.

It's a reptile specialty store. Rootbeers don't look that much like normals to me, I'm sure they could see the differences. How bad would it really be to sell these triple het hybrids?

And if it truly is a terrible idea, do you not think I could find suitable homes for them anywhere? This is a project I'm potentially quite interested in pursuing for some hold backs.
 
Your rootbeers would be *at least* 75% corn, which is almost impossible to tell from a pure corn.

I have a chihuahua/miniature pinscher mix puppy, but she looks and acts pure min-pin. Should I try to make more money off her by selling her as a min pin, or should I present her as she is?

An ethical person would list her as a mutt. A dishonest person would lie for more money. What if a person who wanted to breed show-quality min-pins saw her and wanted her?

Selling hybrids as anything but hybrids is dishonest and unethical. It's plain wrong, especially when they look so much like pure animals.
 
Hey guys, that was just a possible suggestion I didn't know about. I asked and received an answer. I won't sell these animals to anyone who doesn't understand what they are and the pairing that made them.
 
I'm very interested in working with this hybrid and holding back babies to bring out the triple het possibilities for future generations.

I haven't really considered another corn for myself. I've always been really focused on balls...well, until now that is.
 
You'll just make snow stripes with slight/no emoryi influence. :shrugs:

Hmmm. I'd never considered getting another corn of my own. I've been focused pretty strictly on balls... until now that is.
 
I read the "Should I breed my corn snake?" thread and I really see where you're coming from :\ I'm not trying to make snakes with no place in the world.

What might be a good male to pick up to pair with my girl though? I'd really like some suggestions, if anyone has some.
 
You could look for a Ghost Stripe het Amel. That would test your female for Amel and Hypo...two common hidden hets. Possibly make Anery, Ghost, Snow and Hypo Snow babies in a Stripe pattern.
 
Yup, I agree with everybody else. If you want to work with hybrids, you should work with hybrids that look like hybrids, and not create animals that look pure. It really messes things up that way.

Now if you want some nice visuals.....a ghost stripe might be the way to go.....but....

If you want a longer term project sure to create something spectacular.....think about getting a sunkissed male. If you bred a sunkissed to your girl you should get all normals (unless the sunkissed was het for anery).....but if you kept some of those back and bred them to each other you would get......normals, anerys, stripes, sunkissed, anery stripes.....and the muchly coveted sunkissed stripes, and anery sunkissed stripes. And although I have never actually done it (yet), I am pretty sure that finding an sunkissed anery stripe hatchling in your eggbox might be pretty close to entering the doors of paradise. Ask iculatr! :)
 
Hey, don't Jarrett and Troy (The Cornneciton) have sunkissed stripe hets for sale?? Possibly even including anery?? That _would_ be a spectacular project, and the babies would be in high demand. The F2s.

I agree- there is no point in breeding hybrids that have even a remote chance of being mistaken for "pure" corns.

I am not good with genetics, but I did have a beautiful Creamsicle. You could do two projects one with the triple hets and one with Creamsicle x Creamsicle. Stripe, motley creamsicles beautiful. If your cream is dark find another dark go for darks. I do agree with others, rootbeers look like Normals and while you may label them the next person may not.
