Corrupted database

Poor, poor, Rich....even with the snakes gone you still get your share of headaches it seems.....

Not to pile on or to be pushy since the problem has already been reported, but in case it helps to know more/all the incidents I have not been able to access the user cp. It seems that I can get new posts and things like that but when I click on user cp it says

"Database error
The CornSnakes.com Forums database has encountered a problem.
Please try the following:
Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
Open the www.cornsnakes.com home page, then try to open another page.
Click the Back button to try another link.
The www.cornsnakes.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience."

This happened at 7:30 am Eastern and again now at 10:30 am Eastern

Again not rushing or even complaining I just wanted to add the info in case it is helpful.

Yeah, I know. I'm having my doubts that the server management people I hired know what the hell they are doing. FC is down with another corrupted table in the database. I told them there was a problem in there, and they were saying that is was just a fluke and reloading the database should take care of it. That's like someone putting a patch on a bullet hole through your gut and saying the blood has stopped leaking, so you are good to go to walk out of the emergency room.

Dammit all to hell................... :angry01:

Sorry for all the hassles, Rich, and thanks again for keeping us updated! Oh, and PMs are working here again.

Today pretty much sucked. And it ain't over with yet. Getting more database errors and for a while FaunaClassifieds was completely dead. Rebooting the server took about two and a half hours to recover from. And I don't have any warm fuzzy feeling at all that the cause of the problems have been fixed at all.

If I get even a hint of database problems showing up, I'm going to lock this site to keep people from getting frustrated when a backup file has to be reloaded again and losing everying from the past 24 hours. The site will just have to stay closed until the server management people can FIX this problem instead of just putting a temporary patch over the symptoms.

(((Rich))) If you need to shut the site down, is there any way to have a page that says "down for repairs" so we know our browser is working & that you are working too? Thanks muchly for all your efforts!

To answer your question, you should have seen a notice just a bit ago stating that I was shutting down the site to do some database maintenance.

My husband is a systems admin as his job and he does a lot of server managing, php, and database stuff. If things don't get better and you start to feel like people are just blowing smoke...well you know where, he would be happy to lend an ear and let you know if they are being straight with you or if they are indeed blowing smoke. Of course you have been running forums for a while so I'm sure you already have a good idea about stuff. But even if you get this particular problem straightened out know that if you ever end up needing to ask someone impartial I know the guy to ask.

The only thing worse than CS.com being down is my iPhone being down- frozen or black screen. At least I know CS.com will come back up.

They do - just at the rate of about 1 Mac incident:10K non-Mac incidents. :sidestep:

Thats just hype that mac wants people to believe so they can charge an arm and a leg for their products. I have run Window and Linux PC'c forever, in the last 3 years only one of our computers has ever had an incident and it turned out that when the machine had been moved a connection had been knocked lose creating a short and it had nothing to do with the OS at all. In my entire time using pc's we have only ever experiences about a handful of incidents total. Use Mac's if you like them just don't spread rumors and hype as truth.

Thank you Rich whatever you and your people did the site seems to be working now. Everyone (whether you are a mac, windows, or linux user) please keep your fingers crossed that it stays working.
