Could my Snake be Dying???

By the way Emily, I was sorry to read on your brother's thread that you currently have Swine Flu. I hope you make a speedy recovery...
I also wish you well, Emily. My 12/13 year old son (birthday on the 8th) might have it too... but the doctor isn't very concerned as he is doing very well... even after a bout with a fever as high as 103.7. He's much better today and even "smiled" when I told him that I loved him. LOL.

Thats it! We have a fatophobia!

You and your brother are not fatophobic...you are bigots.

Fatophobic means you are afraid of fat people. You aren't afraid. You are prejusticed against people with more curves. That makes you a bigot not a fatophobe.

Just a helpful hint for definitions since you are using your words ignorantly.

How did this thread turn from "my snake is dying!" into a full blown escapade of teenage stupidity and bigotry? I am frankly astounded.

A lot of people on this thread seems to view of things in black and white. There can be grey areas, you know.

we should start a forum garbage pile. and throw threads like this right in it. its growing just as fast as dyk threads, and it doesnt need to grow. theres no point to it. now its just bickering. guys, girls, ladies and gents, turn your heads and stop viewing this. replies are no longer necessary.

leading by example?

*giggles* no harm ment...just for a giggle. *hugs*

Sorry, but I have a quibble with your phraseology. A minor quibble, but an important one.

There are ALWAYS gray areas. The absolute only thing that is black or white is that we're all going to die.

I used to hold absolutist ideas about some concepts. Not many, but some. As I've aged, I've found that they've all gone away. One of the most tiresome, tedious aspects of dealing with the young is that they haven't yet had it beaten into them through hard experience that there are no absolutes except death. There's always compromise, there's always wiggle room, there's always a "yeah, but". Always.

Throughout literature there are stories with the idea of "walking a mile in the other person's shoes". It means to try to put yourself in their place, and lay aside your own preconceptions for a moment, and look at a situation from the other's perspective. The sooner young people learn to do that, the sooner they stop being tediously absolutist.

Also, there is enough information online to find out where you live. For your privacy I'm not going to say what or where, but if you want to know so that you can correct it, PM me.

Ha, bet you are wrong whatever you say. I have never put my real town on the internet :) Ever

BTW< I am over the swine flu now... kinda. I went to the fair last night and felt OK so I hope that the worst is over.

The doctors weren't concerned with the flu either, I didn't even take any medicine.

You might not have, but it's easy enough to tie, say, your column to your Facebook (and particularly your Facebook friends list!) to your name to your IP address and someone who is internet savvy CAN find your home town - and possibly even your home address.

Well then I am totally erasing my CS.com account... that is CREEPY. Especially since people hate me on here. EEP! See yall later!

Erasing your account wouldn't change the fact that anyone who is interested enough in someone else on the internet CAN find out details about them if they're determined enough.

Besides, don't go erasing your account on my behalf, I'm in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England (might as well say it, I post it publicly on another forum I use regularly, because I meet up with other reptile keepers regularly - yes, there are people on the internet who know where I live, my real first name, what I do for a living - even where I work) so I'm absolutely no threat to someone who lives in Texas, even if I wanted to be (which I don't.) Just because I personally cannot and will not see eye to eye with you based on your statements about animals doesn't mean I hate you. It just means I disagree with you.

People you see in your everyday life are a lot more likely to be a "problem" for someone than faceless and largely uninterested strangers on the interwebz. I wouldn't trust my across-the-street neighbour if I left my door unlocked, for example.

Snap I use the same forum and I regularly meet up with other keepers/breeders... I tell people where I live and they share their addresses with me....
I don't think anyone who is publicly 'out there' is a threat...
It's the ones you don't know about that seem to be the problem....

Heck, Mike even streetgoogles me occasionally since we can't meet in person for tea. ;)

I was just thinking about that straight after I posted....
Hell we all stood in each others gardens a while back....LOL
Shame I couldn't get a peek through the curtains.... Muhahahaha... LOL

I am out there, easily found.
And I have many ebil plans involving Lori.....
I am going to go to Daytona next summer, see....and I plan on giving her a huge hug!!
Squish her I will!!
(and Robbie, Nanci, Tony, Katie, Dean, Tim and anyone else unlucky enough to cross my path!!)

Just some advice... take what you will of it. :)

Hmmmmm.... can anyone say, "Naive" or "wet behind the ears" or "D'oh!"?

Emily, whenever you're on the internet you're "exposed" to a certain extent and for most of us, there isn't really anything we can do about it. Part of the nature of the beast.

You'll also have to remember that just because someone disagrees with you on a post or thread or topic, doesn't mean that they HATE you or even DISLIKE you. Some, shall I say, "shallow" people might take it to that extent, but I think that "most" folks simply disagree and might even disagree passionately. That, should not, in your mind, equate to hatred for you.

Even IF someone did hate you because of a post/thread/whatever... that shouldn't affect you personally because they're in no way shape or form able to affect you any more than you allow them to. There are folks on this very thread who have disagreed with me in the past (and maybe even NOW), but we're cordial, compliment each other when appropriate and even are each others' "friends list". And that is OKAY. It's the internet, we're a community, we're not clones of each other.

Don't take things so personally, Emily. Respect other people's right/ability to have a different opinion than your own. That's what you expect them to do for you, isn't it? Then offer the same to them.

PASSION controlled is what truly makes the world work. PASSION uncontrolled is the reason the world is in the state it is in.
