A comment on another thread got me pondering on my habit. My corn-keeping began with single birthday snake from my kids in 2008. I now have 16 in the house, one elsewhere awaiting pickup, and plans for breeding/buying more next year. I've always loved all sorts of animals and been thankful to experience the joys (and tears) that come with breeding them. Genetics is a favorite subject. Colors are a favorite blessing. It therefore doesn't surprise me at all that I've fallen deeply in love with this hobby.
This made me wonder about others' experiences. How many planned to have only one, and ended up with quite a few more? How many planned to go large-scale and have scaled back? How many are happy about their current numbers?
So, fellow addicts, please think back to when you got your first corn. Is where you are now in terms of numbers where you expected to be? Thanks in advance for sharing!
My (pure) cornsnake keeping began on the Chinese New Year of 2009. I already had a cornduran purchased in winter of 2008.
There wasn't an option to vote for "I have obsessive compulsive collecting disorder regardless of the subject matter involved", so I voted and then discovered many others voted the same way.
As for
"think back to when you got your first corn. Is where you are now in terms of numbers where you expected to be",
I can honestly say I did not think that far in advance. If I saw it and had to have it, then my knees went weak and reached for the cash. A hobby that sucks up as much money as having a pet yacht.
I handle them all, often even when I'm not cleaning their homes.
And then there's this site, where there are Enablers, Empowerers, Facilitators, ShoveYouOffTheCliffIntoTheCornSnakePitters, and other loveable types, too.
