I have to say I'm quite surprised with your post, Rich. From your response, it seems that I've touched some personal nerve that was totally out of bounds for discussion, which I've never seen before. I cannot recall one topic that has come up on these boards that you have shot down, which it appears you have here.
Let me just address a few things here and then I'll bow out of the conversation and I guess the thread can die, or be locked or deleted or whatever.
Take a real wild guess about who among you has absolutely any say in this matter........
The intent of the post and poll was to see the general opinion of the cs.com members in regards to the Fauna cornsnakes forum being open or closed and replaced with a link here. I certainly wasn't suggesting that I had any say in the matter.
Are you seriously suggesting that I just leave a hole over on FC concerning Cornsnakes?
Quite honestly, yes. There are so many forums on Fauna that people just don't use. Between skinks, birds, rosy boas, etc---many of these forum's first page have dates that go back to the middle of 2005! I guess I'm just asking at what point is it worthwhile for a forum like that to be open, especially when there's another one that clearly has much more activity? I know you wouldn't just shut people out like that, but do you not think that's a fair question for discussion? If I was running a forum that had been up for 3 years and had 3 pages of posts I believe I would kill the forum.
Seriously folks, that decision is not subject to discussion nor open for debate at all. No one is forcing YOU to go over there, and I am certainly not going to FORCE anyone over there to come HERE. If anyone wants to pit one site against the other, guess which one brings home more bacon then the other? Quite honestly, if it weren't for the fact that I started THIS forum first (because it's ancestor was the forum I ran on my SerpenCo website) THIS forum would be part of FaunaClassifieds. It would certainly have simplified things for me.
I apologize, and like I said, I wasn't aware this was the case. I know you tossed around the very idea of this last year and I wasn't under the impression that the topic wasn't open for discussion.
So Joe, instead of spending your time on this concerning FC, why don't you just go to all of the other websites out there and request them to remove THEIR cornsnake forums as well. After all, your same logic should apply to their sites as well, right? Let me know what they tell you. Suitably censored, of course............
I frequent other forums,
including the one on Fauna but quite frankly nothing even holds a candle to this website. Sure, I can go Reptilerooms.com, or Reptileforums.com, but you know what---they're lame. There is no activitiy and people have no idea what they're talking about. The advice given is terrible, so why even bother? They have 50 members who probably have no idea about this forum. When given the choice of taking advice from random hobbyists, or from yourself, Kathy and Don, what is going to be the logical choice? Are those forum owners going to shut down their website because cornsnakes.com exists, well of course not. The same logic would apply if not for the fact that you own both FC and CS.
Your poll is going to accomplish exactly nothing at all, except to maybe get some people upset, so what is your point? I have some people over on FC trying hard to get more participation in that forum, so why the hell do you see the need to try to torpedo their efforts? Do you seriously think I am going to look at this poll, see 20 people agree with you, and remove that forum over on FC? Get real, please. That is not your call (nor anyone else's either) to make.
People are already clearly upset that some members think the Fauna forum is pointless, and it's been brought up out of context on the BOI and in several threads and in chat. While no particular thread might have been devoted to it, the discussion does go on.
For example:
http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32163
This has been discussed, and a few members seemed to think leaving a hole over there was not only a viable option, but the best one. Clearly it is your call, and nobody here, myself especially, is trying to sway you to make that decison. I could care less if that forum stays or goes, but I am curious to see what the other members here think of it. Nobody is trying to make that call, but I really don't see the harm in discussing the topic.
