Like many lower-grade dog chows, I make my own gravy, so I actually prefer an arid climate.

But this would be my primary reason. Besides, who needs trees with you have views like this?

I forgot you MTBd. I _used to_ be _so_ into it. But not in the days I was frequenting Moab- much later in life. The places I frequented were Tsali and Dupont Forest and Pisgah. (North Carolina- _way_ different, though my all-time favorite trail is called the Slickrock Trail in Dupont which has a bunch of exposed granite.)

Then I crossed over to the Dark Side somehow. My road bike gets all the attention and my FS hangs, lonely, in the shed. (Titus Loco Moto)

HAH, I too, am now mostly on the rigid frame. Did you see that pretty picture of my dual suspension from that link? It's not even hanging, it's in pieces in the basement (this Clydesdale ripped the threads out of the derailleur bolt), AND it's a discontinued bike, so I've got to get a "collar" insert installed on the frame.

And I'm sure you're aware that THE MtB "mecca" is Slickrock in Utah.

This was taken just to the right of the waterfall in Last of the Mohicans. I am about to walk my bike across the river on a stone ledge behind the waterfall!

Nanci

PS, also on this trip, I stopped to capture a snake, some big black thing- and my buddies wouldn't wait, and I was mad for quite a while about that...

Of course! I'm sure whoever named the trail was referring to Moab Slickrock.

I now live in (moved to, for that reason) what some refer to as the Mecca of Cavediving, for all the good it does me now.

I was always partial to Screaming Orgasms, but usually embarrassed to ask for one. :grin01:

Two shots vodka
One shot Bailey's
One shot Kahlua
One shot amaretto

Mmmm!

Nanci

But now I've moved on to the wonderful world of wine- there can be no going back.

(And the profile mentions "science and theology".....it's all about worshiping one's deity, at what altar you kneel, so to speak.)

I wouldn't move there- not enough rain/humidity/trees, but it is one of my very favorite places in the world to visit, and the herping is AWESOME!!!

Nanci

Hi Nanci :)

You know, I had a bit of trouble when I moved here from So. California, adjusting to how dry it is. I went to Alaska last summer and couldn't stand the humidity... not to mention my curly wild hair! I guess, you adjust, right?

While hiking with my girls last fall I jumped down into a coffee pot because there was a snake stuck in there. I was going to be a 'help' and get em out of there. These are natural bowls that are a result of erosion in sandstone. The one I jumped into was about 4 1/2 feet deep (I'm 5'1"). My girls screamed they were laughing so hard because this snake kept charging at me while I was trying to 'help' it. Around and around we went.... hehe. I finally scooped it onto the end of a stick and launched it out of the bowl. No appreciation, I tell ya.

What. A. Cool. Photo. It works on so many (well, two) levels!

Yanno... I didn't look at the profile, just based upon prior conversations. If I had... well, breaking wind would most certainly have been on the top of the list :) hehe.

Could have been. But it didn't bite. But maybe that's just the babies. But that's the second big black snake I've caught that didn't bite. Can't remember the belly. And it seemed heavier. Not an Indigo, of course.

What would you like to wager?

I'm putting my money on a black rat snake. They get big and black in upstate SC and the mountains of NC. And they are not that aggressive when handled gently. Now racers....the only one I've found that wouldn't bite was a dead one. Plus...don't see many of them up this way either.

I must agree with Jeff........I'm guessing if it was a racer you would have known very quickly. I had one very large specimen chase me last summer, not a fun experience.

Drink quickly...what's evaporation? I've never had a glass of SoCo last long enough to evaporate. On the rocks or straight from the hip flask...

SoCo in a hip flask . . . There's something a little "funny" about that picture. You're not on MY team, are you? :grin01: Just teasing, of course.
