Hard to believe

Seems like just yesterday huh Steve ??
Just as Rich mentioned, I remember the lost look on your face as well when you told me it was passing over your area as we spoke.
I also remember when you emailed me that same pic. a few months after and it broke my heart to see your collection in that condition.

As you know this is another thing you and I have in common, which isn't all the great..........a loss to a hurricane. Here is a some pics. of my snake room
(and a couple of the mouse building) from when I returned to our house after Katrina. Of course most of our damage was from water as you can kinda see the water line, which was 56in. from the floor of the house.......Our 10 year mark will be next year.

The bad thing about my experience is we couldn't return home for three weeks AFTER the storm. Unlike Florida where storm surge comes in and goes right back out, we had to wait for them to "drain" the parish before we could get back in.

As you say, I can remember it all so vividly........oh yeah, and don't even get me started on FEMA :angry01::angry01: Luckily enough I was one of the very few who had flood insurance. I had to actually track down my adjuster, who was in HOUSTON for some reason, but once I got with him, things went pretty smooth............well on the flood, homeowners was another story :awcrap:

I'm just happy you (as well as I) had the passion we do for the snakes to push through it and start over.

Our neighbors told us we needed to get our roof out of the street because they couldn't drive down it.:shrugs: Sorry, here let me move that for you, I mean it's just a little ROOF!! LOL!

When the tornado got my house the neighbor called and said, are you looking for your roof? It's in my living room!

Yeah, it was a bad year for storms! I remember it was like clock work. Every single weekend after Charley another one was coming. We actually were living in front of the house in an RV, and we heard another storm was coming (can't remember which one) so we stayed at a friends house for the night. When we returned the next day the RV was on its side!! Good thing we left that night :)

I had a friend move to Orlando from Las Vegas a couple days before Charley. Orlando also got his by two more. That friend, in November, said he was outta here!

I flew out of Orlando about a week after Charley, and noticed how ALL the houses had rectangular or square pools, all the same color. Then it hit me- those were tarps on missing roofs.

WOW Walter I don't think I've seen these pics before! I remember the ordeal you guys went through, but never seen the pics.

Yeah, we had a newspaper article where some high government official wrote in and asked "Where's the FEMA hurricane relief money??" which was in the millions.

We both recovered pretty quickly as far as the snake thing goes I guess. :) Like you said when you have the dedication and passion for it nothing can hold you back. Well except maybe big government passing dumb laws. ;)

Sadly, aint that the truth !!!

Yeah, I have tons of pics. Alot of stuff that would blow your mind, as you mentioned about the pole & boat. Here are just a couple of them.

Also one of the survivors from the rodent building when I opened it.
He was to only one left in the building and I mean the only one. I don't know how all the mice and rats got out because as you can see from the other pic. the doors stayed closed. I didn't find one drowned mouse or even pinkies which had me scratching my head.

I'm surprised the building stayed, but I believe the main electric wire that went from the house to the building kept it in place, kinda like a boat tied to a dock.

There were a couple close neighbors that found some "colorful" rats in their house when they were gutting........
I wonder where those came from:shrugs:............LOL, they pretty much knew.

Damn.... I can't imagine coming home and seeing something like that. No wonder you decided to move farther from the coast, Walt. I would have probably moved to Arizona.

Yeah it wasn't fun, that's for sure as I'm sure the same for Steve.
We are living on a mountain now, around 1300 ft. ABOVE sea level.........LOL

Those pictures are devastating to see. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I am more thankful that we do not have hurricanes here.

All those pictures are so sad. I just can't imagine having to replace pretty much everything you own, as well as the loss of animals.

Wow. Really a shame to see that kind of destruction. Sometimes I get jealous of you gulf coast guys, what with your weather and all, but then I remember stuff like this. I guess it all evens out on the end.

I don't think that it comes close to even! Those pics made me tear up, losing EVERYTHING like that, where do you even start to pick up the pieces of your life? And haggling with FEMA (the stuffed animal and bottle of hand sanitizer line made me read it over several times - I thought that HAD to be a joke) and insurance, what's a little black mold between customer and agent, huh?

I am glad you all are okay from this, we can watch it on TV and be shocked, but to be in the middle of it, words and pictures can't begin to pull the feelings out.

That's awful :(
I don't know what I would do, I can only imagine how devastated you must have been. It's crazy how terrible natural disasters can be.

As much as I hate California, I'm glad the worst we get is earthquakes, which are almost never destructive and are most of the time, fun like being on a ride haha.
