Susan, I think you click on it and then enter a word like 'shedding' or 'brumation' in the field that comes up and it will take you to the frequent questions asked on those topics.
Kind of works like the search button (right next to the new post button, in the tool bar. I guess they should make these things bright pink or neon green lol.)

sorry :-offtopic: I had never actually tried to use it before. I can see how it'd be confusing.I guess it's a good thing there's faq at the end of each subject section, I just tried the toolbar one with the word 'shedding' and it said sorry no matches :shrugs:

I think the FAQ's in the top bar are just for using this site and not on corn care. The "care" FAQ's I believe are still a work in progress. If you open some of the care forums such as "Husbandry and Basic Care, Health Issues and Feeding Problems, and Genetics Issues" the FAQ section is "stickey"ed to the very top. There is also a forum dedicated to just the development of the FAQ section. Joe could probably give more info but he's off cruisin. :shrugs:

Lately with the ridiculous deli cup debacle I've been wondering what kind of impression a new member would get of this site. I guess that kind of thing annoys me more than someone who is just trying to learn and asking some questions that might have already been asked before.

Well, eventually everyone has to learn life lesson # 26, there is no refuge from the jackass. They'll pop up no matter where you go.

I'm just in an obnoxious mood and decided to try "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mode.

I hardly ever use the new post button. I usually skip the first 5 sections. I do mostily look in the genetics section on down. I do look in members forums too. but i mostily just lurk. i will never get a thousands post in a month. Carol I hope tula really didn't say this, cause that is just wrong

I was a noob when I joined in November of 2004; I lurked for about three months before I made my first post. TRUST ME, there were drivel threads even back then, and it didn't deter me. I even found some mildly amusing, like I do the deli cup thread.

More than anything, I'd LOVE to see a mandatory "lurk" period for new members - imo, it would encourage those new to both the hobby and the site to do their homework, so to speak. The search feature is a wonderful, and underutilized, tool. It would also filter out the needy attention junkies.

regards,
jazz

Great idea, mandatory lurk time, with an automatic read only status upon joining lol.
I guess that thread's kind of amusing but it's just I got tired of reading 'you wee mites are so yummy dear' like 800 posts ago. Why feed the fire lol.

LOL

Don't forget life lesson #29: stupid people will follow bad advice, even in the face of good advice. That's the difference between stupid and not stupid. :grin01:

Well Put Chuck

I never use the New Posts button. I go to my favorite forums first...Genetics, Photo Gallery, Breeding, For Sale...usually in that order. Then, depending upon what's going on in my life, I will cruise Misc Corn, General ChitChat, all the member forums, but I usually only read those that strike my fancy. And if I'm really bored, or just in the mood, I will take a brief look at Husbandry and Health for posts with no replies or only 1 or 2 or the really rare post in those areas by the "experts" themselves, cause it's got to be a GOOD one in that case!

I did not wanted to post 2 times the same info but it seems that this is the best way to spread the news well. Does it bother you to see the same thread in 2 sections?
