I tell people it feels like the rought side of velcro. My snow is less than two feet and he very gently mouthed me one night after I put the feeders to defrost- it was adorable.
Two weeks ago, my 3.5 foot snake, Ankh, tagged me. Stabbing myself with a sewing needle hurt way more.
I also handled a black rat snake at a local shop (the lady I was talking to declined picking him up so I reached in for him). I put the back of my hand to him and let him bounce his nose off me a couple times before picking him up, at which point he was mostly okay for handling.
It's more surprise than hurt when it happens. I'd suggest holding out the back of your hand if they are coiling and just let them do it and get the experience over with so you can stop wondering about it.
