Hello everyone! I am a very new snake owner, I've had my slithery friend for about five days now, and I love her! She has been a total dream, I have not had any problems with her thus far. I was really worried the first time I held her that I might hurt her, or drop her, etc. and I was also afraid the first time I fed her that she wouldn't eat (I've heard that happens sometimes). However, she eats very well, to my relief!

I got my snake from a breeder in Spokane (about a three hour trip from where I live), and he was extremely helpful, he said that he's the largest breeder in Spokane, and I wouldn't doubt it, he had a lot of very beautiful snakes :). Before I left he even sexed her for me, which, he said that the guy he worked with was better at pooping them than he is, but I noticed that he went from the belly down, and I watched a youtube video where they went from the belly up, so I don't know if he did it wrong, or perhaps it's just a different technique, I'm not sure :). Anywho, she is a seven month old Lavender Motley Het Hypo, with possible Het Amel, Anery, and Caramel. I know what everything means except for the het, I'll have to look that one up.

Ted was really awesome though, he happily answered every question I had, he even took me through his breeding room and showed me most of his snakes, and he told me if I ever have a question I can send him a text :)

I have to admit, half the reason I joined was just to show off my baybeh!

Welcome! Het means the snake is carrying the gene, but isn't expressing it. Like a het amel would look perfectly normal, but it is carrying the amel gene, so if bred to another snake either carrying (het) or showing (homo) amel, some of the offspring would be "homo" amel. And for what it's worth, I wouldn't be floored if your snake isn't homo hypo. Does the pupil have a reddish hue?

Thank you! Yes, the pupil is a reddish color, and the iris is like a dark, purple red, I'll try and get a pic so you can see it better :)

This was the best eye picture I could get, but you still can't really see the red sheen to her pupil :/ Darn their light phobias, lol.

I've produced a lot of lavs and hypos, but never a hypo lav, so take my guess as what it is... but I think that is a hypo lavender motley.

Awesome, I've looked up a lot of hypo lav motley pictures, and a lot of look like her, but at the same time, none of them really look like her. I love the peachy color on the spots closest to her head. I can't wait see how she changes as she grows, corn snakes are so fascinating :)

Just my two cents- I think s/he's blue. And when popping, one pushes from the tail toward the vent.

Motley can lighten the snake considerably, and a normal lavender _can_ have ruby pupils, but the irises then are generally bluish.

I think my vote is for hypo lav mot, blue, sex undetermined. Her belly is checkerless, right?

If I popped that direction, I'm pretty sure I would produce all girls! :spinner:

Chip,

i'll have to remember that!!! the last 2 season i have produced predominantly male clutches. Need some girls this year! :)

Thanks for all the info everyone! I appreciate all the help. Yes, belly is checkerless. Um, just to be sure, blue means that they're going to shed, correct?
