Or at least she thinks she does! Janine is the FK I inherited from Mike B. She moved to a big 2 x 2 custom cage in the kitchen a while ago. Just recently she's taken up the habit of sitting on top of her hide so she can make sure I don't forget to feed her! This means that any time ANYTHING is going on in the kitchen she feels the need to observe, just in case. She's so smart!

She's a big girl now, about 700 grams, I think. She doesn't like to miss a potential meal!!
 
I wouldn't call her a she-devil at all, Elle. She's super-mellow. I make sure to wash my hands before handling her, if I've touched mice, but she's never so much as offered to bite or rattled her tail or coiled up or anything. She's a sweetheart.
 
I think it's just her intense staring which makes her look slightly intimidating. Noir does that to me as well... and despite the fact hes a soppy big daft thing, he looks somewhat devilish lol.
 
She is gorgeous! I want one sooo bad, I think I like her better than white sided black rats.

It's a Jungle Plastics Habitat. You can read plenty about the guy who makes them on BOI...But anyway, I had two of them custom-made so they would have glass on three sides instead of just the front. I don't use the lighting because it gets too warm. It's just fluorescent, too. It has those vents for extra air circulation. They are pretty to look at, difficult to clean because I practically have to get inside it to reach the back. They are 24 x 24 x 12" tall. I have two stacked on my kitchen counter between the kitchen and living room. Big Jake is in the other one. They heat nicely, and I have a thermostat probe in each, so I can choose which one to run the thermostat from. They have a tiny hole for the stat probes and thermometer probes to go through.

They are nice, and I'm glad I have them, but they were damaged when they were shipped and had to be rebuilt and I feel lucky to have ended up with _anything_. And the lights are so pretty- I wanted to put them on a timer so they would be on for a couple hours in the evening, but it just gets too warm. Maybe I should look into LED fixtures...

I lost my little male whitesided this past summer. The thermostat in my juvie rack went out and I lost a BUNCH of quality snakes...1.0 whiteside brooks, 1.1 hypo flame brooks, 1.0 albino brooks, 1.1 blood het charcoal, 1.1 quintuple het corns and a couple others all fine when I went to bed, and cooked when I woke up...it was devestating...

Nice to see your girl is doing what every good brooksi should be doing...watching, eating and growing like a king!!:bowdown:
 
Big Jake makes Janine look like a worm! And he _does_ like chicken now, in the form of day old chicks...Loves them! I haven't tried Janine yet, because I need Big Jake to be her back-up, in case she decides chick isn't on her preferred list, and for some reason they've been feeding on different days. Normally they'd be the same day.

Thanks Chris! She's so attentive. After all the action was done in the kitchen she rearranged herself into a WTP position on her log and watched Grey's Anatomy till I went to bed.

I heard about your rack, Chris. That is devastating. I put my racks on double thermostats while back because of the rare stories like yours.
 
Wow, what a beauty. After reading the topic 'Can I get a cons in with my Cal King' where the awesome Goini is shown I have been looking for more info on Florida kings. I really would love to see some more pics. I really hope I can find one in Holland.
